Ghost restoration doesn't work and messes up game

Are the sims freezing only on one household or with any household you play? You could try reseting all sims. Open the cheats bar and type in resetSim * this will reset all sims back to their homes, no harm will be done.

I never had that option appear to me, I've always used other ways to make avoid the grim from taking my sims away.

Only the sims in my active household freeze and disappear.  I will try that but what do I do about the ghost sim who doesn't appear after supposedly being "restored"? Will "resetsim" fix that too? Thanks for helping. :D

Oh! New info. My original sims, Hiro and Sam, are over 450 days old. Their first son Eric died recently so they tried to bring him back. The freeze thing happens every time I try to bring Eric back. But the more recent sims in the storyline (Eric's spouse and children & Hiro + Sam's 2nd and 3rd child and their spouses) come back as ghosts just fine without any problems. It is only Eric's restoration that causes these problems. I am really confused now! Any ideas?

It looks like there is a corrupted file in your saved game and looks like it might be related with Eric. Like I said before, I never had the option of bringing a sim back to life as a ghost appear to me, so I'm not sure how that works, but we can try to solve this together. How exactly does that work? Eric's remains are in someone's personal inventory and you just have to take them to the lab and he'll come back as a ghost or did that appear as an opportunity?

Do you have any saved games from before Eric died?

Normally when you figure out that a specific sim is causing issues, you just kick them out of the household and then when you bring him back everything is ok. But Eric can't move to another lot alone because he's dead. There is an option to move the person that has Eric in their inventory to another lot, then move them back to the household where your family is. After doing so, try to get him to the lab again and bring him back as a ghost. Just for precaution, before doing this, make a backup of your current game. You can do so by clicking ''save as'' and giving your save the same name as your current save and today's date or anything you want just to differentiate from the other save. ex: hiro&sam060613 or hiro&sambackup.

@Gardin, you get a call sometimes after the sim has died, giving you the opportunity to do it. If I'm not mistaken, once you've done it for the first time, you can do it as many times as you want afterwards. Basically, the opportunity becomes a option. Long time no see too. 😕mileyvery-happy:

@Andromache if gamergoddess can solve it just by moving one sim with Eric's remains to another lot and then moving them back in, there's no use in moving the household to the bin and losing all of their friends and wishes and jobs right? Not criticizing! I thought about that too but if this works this way then gamergoddess could avoid all those losses.

When someone dies there is a random chance that soon after (by phone) that you will get a special opportunity which says something like "Has someone close to you died recently? The science facility is conducting experiments. Bring the remains of that loved one to the science facility to bring them back to life! (technically as a playable ghost)"  So I put his remains in the inventory of the sim who got the opportunity, then go to the science lab. After an hour of sim time goes by both characters should walk out of the front of the science lab. The one who got the opportunity and the dead sim restored as a playable ghost. This works just fine with every other character except Eric for some reason. I don't have any save games before he died, so I guess I am out of luck? I mean it is not a big deal or anything I was just curious as to why it just wouldn't work at all. I am actually trying to bring Eric to life by first restoring him to a playable ghost, then feeding him ambrosia, then giving him young again potion.

When I try to restore Eric both characters do not come out of the front of the science facility like they should. The character with the opportunity freezes and turns invisible while Eric does not show up at all. His green box in the upper left shows up but without his picture in it. Just weird. I was thinking that since he is one of the oldest characters in my sim timeline (other than my original 2 who are immortal.) that it is not working. I really appreciate all the ideas. I will give these new ones a try and see if it does anything. ^^

just on the off chance does the  character  with the opportunity freezes and turns invisible have any special seeds in the inventory wands potions or the axe from china i can never spell and have to look up LOL

Yes the characters do have money tree seeds in their inventory. Does that do something?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys but none of them work. Eric's ghost restoration is still bugged or something. ☹️

sometimes special seeds "stop" a sim from getting  certain things done for witches the seed stops  them skilling up once the seeds are removed from the inventory the sim can do whatever it was supposed to be doing  try moving the seeds from the inventory place them on your sims lot or in another sims inventory untill you can find out if you can get your ghost restoration
