Got Sims 3 plus Pets. Downloading Pets expansion problems

I downloaded Sims 3 no problem then it told me to restart my computer and I got it all up to date and then I tried installing the Pets expansion and it says I need to have Sims 3 installed to play..

I've tried uninstalling and starting over but no dice.

Any suggestions or similar problems that have been solved?
