Lost Steam CD Key and Connecting Sims 3 on Steam to Origin

Hi, I have The Sims 3 on my Steam account and while I used to be able to view my game's CD key but then it's deleted. I contacted Steam and they said EA disabled old keys. Now I want to connect my Sims 3 to Origin and I don't know how. I will be glad if you help me.

  • @denizelifs  For new purchases, as in ones that occurred after the CD keys were no longer provided, there's unfortunately no way to get the key from Steam.  If you bought before the change happened around February, you might still technically have a key on your account, in which case you might be able to convince Steam support to provide it to you.

If that doesn't work, or you bought the key after the change, you'll need to contact EA customer support and ask for help.  Be sure to provide proof of purchase from Steam, e.g. screenshots of a digital receipt and the game in your account; you can upload these screenshots when you submit the help request.

I bought it in 2019. Previously I was able to view my key. I can't view it right now and I've already contacted Steam. They redirected to EA. If I can't access my key again and there is a way to connect my Origin and Steam account, I want to do it. Thank you for trying to help.

@denizelifs  Do you currently have the game installed, and was it most recently installed before the change happened?  If so, you can dig the product key out of the registry.  It'll be in one of these two locations:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sims(Steam)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic ArtsSims(Steam)

I deleted the game before and hadn't played for a while. After a while of reinstalling I realized that the key was not there. By the way, I have linked my Steam and Origin account now. I just have to import The Sims 3 into Origin.

@denizelifs Did you buy bundle? If so, base game and that expansion share the same code, you just need to register the expansion key and base game plus the expansion were registered in origin. This worked for me.
  • No :/ but I contacted with EA again and they said there is no way to transfer game Steam to Origin but I don’t know if it will work when i find the CD key.  Thanks for helping.

@denizelifs  The EA support rep is incorrect: it's always been possible to register a Steam copy of Sims 3 in Origin.  Newer games don't transfer this way, but that's a different story.

If you contact EA support again and get the same answer, please let me know.  That shouldn't happen.
