Grim's Ghastly Manor

After several failed attempts, (the game was showing the Items but not the Lot), I finally was able to download Grim's Ghastly Manor. Whoever worked on this manor did a fantastic job. Even I'm scared when I just look at it. Can you have two graveyards in the town or does EA recommend deleting, or saving to the library, the one that came with the town? I know the school goes on school outings, and one of the outings is to the graveyard. I don't think I want young Sims to see the Grim Reaper at the Ghastly Manor so if I leave the graveyard in the game (the one that came with the town), will the school outings happen at that one, instead of the Ghastly Manor? I did notice you can place two graveyards in the town/world you're playing but you have to place it far away from the graveyard that is already in the town/world. Can I play with two or will this totally confuse the Sims?

  • you can always save your game with the save as new name and see how it goes 🙂

in ny game in Sunset Valley bought the original graveyard a  a  business  when i checked the upgrade requirements for it the upgrade believe it or not was to add a mausoleum so that graveyard has two mausoleum's and the Sims get about 9000 simleons in profits

you can use the door of life and death on your own lot as your front door ( make sure your Sims have death flowers ) one of mine auto challenges the reaper to guitar challenge some she wins some she looses AND that door is might handy if you get paps or zombies on your lot now just so you know and if you run into this  the first time i placed the door in game as the hall door for my sims lot my sims glitched/slid away from it so i went to buy/build sold the door and replaced it with a new one and they didn't glitch/slide after that

also you can place the grim's manor on if i recall right it's a 50X25 lot size ? but i have placed it on a 50X50 which meant i could add to it a wee bit more  and change the lot type to residential but you will get the notice some objects cannot be used in this lot type and will be replaced with residential items

how ever the only issue i would see is if you delete the gravestones/headstones ,deleting tombstones that have occupants can cause problems with glitches in your game just move them to the one lot or leave them where they are   BUT the grim that appears with the manor and  door of life and death is not the grim reaper that is in game It's a  Sim spawned into the service Sim pool

sorry for the wall of text but i hope it makes sense and is off use to you

edit to add did a little search found this information

Now, to answer some questions from the forums and Twitter:

Q: What type of lot is this?
A: This is a Graveyard but you can put the Door on any type of lot. Grim’s Ghastly Manor comes on a 50x25 lot, which should fit nicely in place of most graveyards in your game.

Q: Will this kill off all of my Sims?
A: The good news is that Sims don’t mess with the door much on their own. So you won’t have a Sim who doesn’t have the Guitar skill pick up a guitar for the first time and challenge the Reaper to a duel they will surely lose.

Q: Can playable Ghost Sims bring their own tombstone to Grim to be reincarnated?
A: No, you’ll need another Sim to do that for you.

Q: What is the skill bar in the image that was posted of Pitty pulling someone down to their demise?
A: In that picture the Sim had just lost a Guitar Duel, so they were still getting a skill bump before they died. This is important in case someone wants to reincarnate them.

Q: Where does the Reaper sleep?
A: I’ve never seen him sleep, but he has a bed with pink lamb sheets and his upstairs is rather bachelor pad-ish. In the attic are the burned out remains of a nursery hinting to something dastardly from a long time ago.

    Q: Is the Reaper playable?
A: No. His job keeps him far too busy for that.

Hi There! I've never had a problem with two graveyards in a town. I've had the Grim's Ghostly Manor for about a month? But I'm unsure about the field trip bit of your question, as I usually don't play with kid sims. I hope someone else might have an ansewr to that question for you.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thank you for doing a thorough job of answering my questions. I will not delete the graveyard that came with Midnight Hollow because deleting occupied tombstones might cause glitches in the game.

Nice to know that Sims don’t knock on the Door of Life and Death on their own, but makes me wonder about the Sombre Family at 90 True Terrace in Midnight Hollow. They are a group of musicians, and obviously they have the Guitar Skill. They better not challenge Grim to a guitar duel without my knowledge. One of the great ideas about the Sims 3 is you will be playing one family while the other families in the town are going about their daily lives. Sort of hate it when my Sim reads the paper and finds out about the deaths of some Sims. In the past, that is how I found out about the problem with In-Ground Fountains. My silly Sims were dying off in droves and when I checked one of the roommates in their family, I found the whole family was stuck in these fountains. I just reloaded a saved game and quickly placed a small fence around these fountains. Sometimes I wish life had a reload button. The Deep Freeze Ice Lounge caused the demise of a lot of my Sims. I couldn’t understand why I saw the Grim Reaper many times at the Ice Lounge. I thought maybe he liked cold places or my Sims were just freezing to death. But I found out Sims were getting stuck in the fountain out front. I just replaced the fountain with an above-ground fountain. Guess EA fixed the problem (I hope) because Sims are not dying from death-by-fountain anymore.

I saw the attic and the nursery in Grim’s Ghastly Manor but didn’t realize it was burned out. But then when I think of it, everything looks burned out because it’s so dark in Midnight Hollow. Could it be possible Nervous Subject, whose mother is Olive Specter, could be the child of Grim? I like the personalities in Midnight Hollow but EA made the town too dark. I can only play Midnight Hollow at night with all the lights off so I can see playing the game without straining my eyes too much. Thank you again for all your advice.

    you very welcome 🙂

yes i know what you mean i had some sims with a similar issues took a while to find it i either put up a fence , place an above fountain or hammered the fountain in build mode

i do believe on the TS3 forum they had/have a MH brighten up project  looked rather good from what i saw of it

  • You're very welcome. Let me know where to find out about this Midnight Hollow brighten up project. There are so many categories on the forums, it could take you all day searching.

  • Many thanks for your help but I'm Ahhhhfraid of mods (really afraid of them). The game is working great and I do not want to do anything to spoil it. I don't understand why the world designers at EA would create a world that hides all the beauty they created. There should be a tab to choose lighting like there is a tab for choosing the Seasons. I really don't think EA wants to put too much more work into the Sims 3 because the Sims 4 is coming out. But some of us players are going to continue playing the Sims 3 (I still play the Sims 2 once in a while). Have a SIMply marvelous day.

i can understand not wanting to mod i did in one game of MH just go to edit town and repainted the houses and used terrain pains on the gardens  just to see how it would look wasn't bad and i could live with it
