According to that thread, the problem with the spiral staircases was fixed for IP in patch 1.57 but for whatever reason, lots of people who should be patched to that level or even above, are still having problems. For myself, those staircases were definitely not fixed by the patch. Which means the previous incremental patch didn't take, for whatever reason.
