I downloaded a game off the internet, do I need to use the internet to play?

So I got a few expansion packs for sims 3 off the origin store and they downloaded off the internet. I was just wondering if to play these expansion packs, because they're not on a disk, I need to run them from the internet. Like do they need to be constantly streaming from the internet to play?
