Install from Disks

Answered my own question. The game disks I have are both post 2012 and can't be used for disk only install. They both install Origin and immediately want to install the EA app. I found the original version on ebay for $2.99. It will arrive Saturday, so I may be back with more questions.

I finally got the game installed. I have all of the expansions on CD except Island Paradise and Into the Future. Showtime/Katy Perry will arrive soon. I picked up the combo on eBay for $12 including shipping.

I only have High-End Loft Stuff on CD. The rest will have to wait until I have the spare cash.

Because I don't have all of the expansions I had before, I have refrained from opening previous games for the moment.

My world, Alryne Valley, loads fine and plays well so far. I was able to go to Edit in Game in Create a World just fine, so I am happy.

@texansky , @ts1depot , so you're saying that not only disks, but prior to 2012 allows installation without a demand for Origin and EA App? What about internet connection at all? Like, with the prior-to-2012 disks, could you install it without being connected to the internet? And how did you get the 1.67 patch? And then did your old Store items' and cc's package files in an old folder install ok, and without the internet? Did it need to be on an older operating system as well?
I've made peace with the EA App for now, but I'm wondering. And what was the significance of the 1.67?

I can say I have the disks installed with the original TS3 base game. I don't need Origin to run the game - which is why only up to 1.67 is significant.
I patched my game to 1.67 with the Cumulative patch downloaded from the help section.

My Origin, which I need for TS2UC to run, is isolated from the Internet on my computer. I will not let it update. If it does update then I know EA has reached too far to invade my computer. I do not give them the right.
I don't need Origin to install from tS3 store only the Launcher.

You don't need to be connected to the internet or have an older system to install and run the game on 1.67.

The significance of 1.67 is that it's the last patch level you can use for Sims 3 that isn't tied to a third party client and requires being online to work. Once you have it, you never, ever have to worry about EA App or some other app down the pike that can mess up your game.

Also, like @Rflong7 said, there's an issue of invasiveness that you don't have to worry about.

@ts1depot that link doesn't work, it gives an error and says it can't be downloaded securely. There's a choice on my browser of "Keep" and then that gives a pop-up lecturing about malicious attackers.

At first I thought you'd meant the help page on TS3, like with the MyPage and all that. Those patch downloads are disabled. Clicking on any goes to a page of a description with no further button. I also wondered where the patch file is for the 1.69 to remove it. I suppose its not like TS2 where the patches were a file I could see and re-use in the documents/something something folders. I've never seen an actual patch file in the patch folder in Sims 3. I assumed it became like an integrated thing.

Sorry I didn't explain better. :(

I downloaded the patch again just a few days ago when someone said it was available (~cumulative Super Patcher). It did give a warning but I told it to download anyway and I have it, now 2 more times. :)

It is like TS2 as in it is a download .exe that you have to double click to run, and you can keep to use again.

The 1.69 update was through Origin. Not a download.

@Rflong7 ah ok. So if I were to uninstall, then reinstall using only disks, as long as they're from before 2012, there wouldn't be 1.69, and then I could download the 1.67 and trust it and ignore the warning, and then there won't be a switch to the EA app, and the Store content from package files in my old folders, including worlds, will install and load without uninstalling themselves and without causing Origin to install. Is that right?
And will any newly bought Store content from the past few months, or year, behave itself or will that be tainted with Origin/EA app woes?

I believe it's the base game before 2012. Once you install the base game you can use the 1.67 patch and then install the rest of the stuff/eps disks (not downloads).

What warning? Don't install Origin.
I had Origin already installed and blocked it once I read EA was going to an App. EA's history with updates is not good. Especially with CAW. :)

The Store stuff is installed through the Launcher. You won't have the newest launcher with the EP options.
It's always been a pain with the Store. I just finished redownloading the whole store.
