Installing games with Origin causes computer to freeze

I bought Seasons through Origin, downloaded and installed successfully, and opened the Launcher. I clicked Play, and my laptop froze. After manually turning it off, then on again, I tried to uninstall Seasons, but that also froze my computer, as did trying to uninstall the only other Origin expansion pack, World Adventures. Other, non-Origin installed programs, including Sims Ambitions and Night Life, uninstalled with no problems. I manually uninstalled Seasons and World Adventures (https://help.ea.com/article/manually-uninstalling-the-sims-3), then reinstalled the base game and Ambitions with the discs, and could play wth no problems. I then uninstalled both, and installed just the base game with Origin, and had the same freezing happen, and was unable to uninstall the normal way as well.

Bypassing the launcher doesn't help - it just freezes when I click there, too.

I had no trouble with World Adventures when it was installed by itself, but had never tried to play it from Origin, as I had Night Life as a disc after installing WA from Origin and had to use that. I have completely uninstalled Origin several times as well, but the freezing continues.

  • When you use the download version, the game tries to verify itself the first time you start the game. Maybe something is blocking that connection ?

That might be part of it? As far as I can tell, though, my antivirus is set to allow Sims and Origin to do anything they like - also, would it still try to verify the program when I'm trying to uninstall it? Because that seems especially strange to me; freezing when attempting to play is one thing, but why should it freeze when I try to uninstall? The two should be pretty much unrelated, right?

Thank you so much for answering, though! I appreciate you trying to help :D

I really don't know how the whole verifying process works. Not using the download version myself.

I don't have another idea what could be causing this unfortunately. Maybe someone else does.
