Is it still possible to redeem Steam purchases on Origin using CD keys?

I was just wondering if you can still buy Sims 3 EPs and SPs on Steam during a sale, then find the CD keys and enter those on Origin?  When I've looked this up people say you can, but those threads are always at least a couple of years old, and I'm worried that you can't do that anymore.  In my Steam library, for instance, most of my games don't give me the option of viewing their CD keys.  So I'm worried that if I go to buy Sims 3 and EPs/SPs during a sale, I won't be able to view the CD keys.

  • @Dr_Lagsalot94  The last I heard, this still worked, and that was only a couple months ago.  But if you buy the game on Steam and find you can't redeem the CD keys, or you don't get any keys, just cancel the Steam purchase right away.  Steam's policy is, or at least used to be, that if you'd played for less than two hours and bought the game fewer than 14 days ago, you could get a refund.

Keep in mind you'll also need to buy a copy of the base game in Steam in order to be able to buy any packs.

Ok, thank you for replying, puzzlezaddict.  I'm glad to hear that it still worked a couple of months ago, that's pretty recent.  I guess I could return it if it doesn't work, I'd never thought of that.  And yes, I was aware that I would need to buy the original game first before the EPs/SPs.  Thanks again for the help!

Also, I forgot to ask, do you know if Origin has sales as well?  Are they as often as Steam's, and are the deals as good ($5 SPs, for example)?

@Dr_Lagsalot94  In the two years and a few months that I've been paying attention, I've seen a few Origin sales of Sims 3 expansions; I don't think I've ever seen stuff packs on sale, but it's possible I missed one.  In all cases, EPs were $10 U.S. each, never cheaper.  So Steam is the better bet for sales.

Steam also offers bundles, for example the base game, Generations, Pets, and Seasons for $7.50 total, or six stuff packs for around $21.  If you see a sale and can't find one of those bundles, just google something like "Steam Sims 3 bundle," and you should see whatever is currently available.
