Is the sims 3 playable in 2024 after moving from ORIGIN to EA app?

how do i make my sims 3 game playable? I have the sims 3 and various expansion packs on CD roms (from playing it before origin was needed to play) and tried downloading them on my new PC by connecting a disk drive. The games downloaded no problem, however the game will not even start without origin. I get to the sims 3 launcher and whenever I select play I get a message saying that "origin is needed to play"


The next thing I tried doing is downloading origin onto my PC. But that's right! origin basically doesn't exist anymore so when I tried downloading the application it wouldn't run.

I even tried purchasing a couple sims 3 expansion packs on the EA app, because I assumed i probably have to buy all my packs AGAIN through the EA app to play. So to start, I just bought the sims 3 base game on the EA app and lo and behold it still wasn't running and would give me the same message that it needed origin to run.


i haven't played the sims 3 in years, but after finding my expansion packs I was so excited to get back into it. However, I didn't think it would be this difficult just to play a game. I have some sims 2 games on CD rom too. I have a lot of expansions and I was not planning on re-investing into all of those games again. If I have to, I might do it.

    @yallneedtherapy  You'd need to uninstall the disc version of Sims 3, clean your computer's registry to get rid of the game's leftover traces, and reinstall through the EA App.  An uninstaller like Revo can remove the registry entries for you while also removing the game, or you could use Piriform's CCleaner to clean the registry instead.  The free version of either app is fine.

    If you still have the codes for your base game and packs, and you never registered them, you can do so now within the EA App's game library, and the content will be added to your account, so you don't need to buy it again.  If you did register the content, sign into whatever EA account you used at the time, and you should be able to install everything.
