Officially, yes the game is "compatible with Macs". Even if you bought the PC version of it, you can download the Origin client, and enter the serial code. Then you get download it digtially as either a PC download or Mac download.

thankyou! i have installed the game via the bought version not the download, and the launcher crashed when opening it after i had downloaded the latest patch, and 45 mins into my game i was in CAS and it quit unexpectedly saying i needed to debug... i don't suppose you know what this is?? Also, what is the origin client? thanks

The debug error is very common; if you don't have cc or mods, it's mostly due to Cider (especially since you were 45 mins into CAS which causes the error to occur faster). There's nothing you can do to fix that other than some of the suggestions I've linked before, even then those things only help but not prevent crashes.
