Sims game crashing on loading screen whenever travelling

I've had my sim travelling around to China, Egypt and France - it's been working perfectly until today. She was in France, about to leave and then as the loading screen for returning home came up, it crashed after maybe 30 seconds. I tried to do it multiple other times, using backup saves and trying from there. Each time, there was no music in the background like there normally is for loading screens - like i could hear normal sounds when playing. Then it would get like a little bit of progress and crash. At one point I was actually able to get my sim home, I think I uninstalled Traveller mod and changed a top from CC that i think was making it bug but then I tried it on another save file (the same thing) and it broke again? So, no idea what happened there. So I then went back to the game save where she was back home and tried moving her towns to see if that would work, obviously it didn't (:

(For reference these are the mods I have : NRAAS (Story progression, Master progression, Traveller, Error Trap, Overwatch, Career), and ones like more toddler interactions, more romance, more pregnancy, mixed feelings etc).

So this is what I have tried,

- Repairing game

- Trying a new save in a new town

- Deleting Travel.DB out of each save

- Deleting ALL mods and cc

- Keeping NRAAS mods but deleting everything else

- Deleting cache files

- Uninstalling and Reinstalling

- Clearing current game files

Even after completely starting fresh in a new game with no store content, cc or mods, it STILL won't let me travel so it isn't the mods or cc, and how is it a corrupted save file if it's brand new?

I've been trying to fix this for over five hours to no avail, I don't know if I'm just being stupid or not, completely possible. I'm not the best with these things so if anyone can help at all, it would be so so appreciated.

  • Rosabella-sims97  To be clear, you can't get through a travel transition in a new save anymore?  Do you get an error message now?  It sounds like you didn't initially, but I want to make sure.

Anyway, please try traveling your sims with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

I realize this isn't necessarily a good fix for general use, but it is an informative test.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I have the same issue. My sims have suddenly lost the ability to travel anywhere, same symptoms as the original poster. There is no error message just a small amount of progress before the game crashes to desktop.

I have tried in new saves to travel with no luck. My sims can't travel to China (I assume the other WA worlds will be the same), they can enrol in University but they can't travel there, they can't travel to the future, and they can't move their household to a new world.

I have gone into world edit mode and tried to edit Oasis Landing but the game crashed immediately when it started loading the world. I had a similar result when I tried editing one of the WA worlds.

I can load a save where my sims are in Oasis Landing but they can't travel back to the present.

The CurrentGame.sims3 folder is being created when the sims travel so the crash is happening after that point in the code.

I have tried many of same troubleshooting steps as the original poster and like them had the nraas traveler mod installed but the crashes still occur whether or not I had the mod installed or not.

I am playing on a newish windows laptop with the EA App installed. The EA app applied an update just before I started playing and asked me to restart the app which I did. I wondering whether the update broke the Sims 3 somehow.

I'm firing up my old PC to see whether I have the same problem on that computer (atm it is applying a gazillion updates to the Sims 4 so I have to wait for that to finish)

  • Truet318  Please try playing with your computer offline, as above.  If that doesn't help, I'd like to see a dxdiag from your affected computer.  And please let me know what antivirus you use as well.

    You have saved my life!!!

I originally tried it on a new save file altogether and it worked both travelling to China and also moving town. I then put my old save file in and all my mods and cc and it worked when moving towns!

Thank you so so so much, I was near giving up! I would literally never have thought to go offline? What an odd glitch.

Hi, try going offline like they suggested - it has now worked for me! No idea why or how, but let me know if it works for you, too.

My sims can travel if I put the EA app into offline mode, although the laptop is still receiving wifi.

  • Rosabella-sims97  Thanks for letting me know, and I'm glad it helped.  Taking the EA App offline while leaving your computer online is also worth trying, as the other player has posted.

Truet318  The fact that you only had to put the EA App in offline mode suggests this probably has something to do with the App, not your computer.  It doesn't look like a general issue since there aren't more reports yet, but it's possible your install is corrupted.  It's also possible that the App is doing something your antivirus objects to and is therefore blocking the App from working, which would also crash the game.  Why this happens during a travel transition, I don't know, but check your antivirus for recent actions involving Sims 3 or the App.
