I've tried all the fixes, but The Sims 3 still freezes

Question

A while ago my game started freezing for about a maximum of a minute or two before it would continue for at least another ten minutes without freezing, at the minimum. For the most part it was happening every half an hour or so. Now it's happening every few seconds of gameplay and has made the game unplayable. I've tried pretty much every solution I've come across to no avail.

My Specs:

8GB RAM

Intel i7 processor (2.3GHz)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M 2GB

Hundreds of gigs of free disk space

Expansions/Stuff Packs I have:

Expansions: All except Into the Future

Stuff Packs: All except Diesel Stuff, Sweet Treats and Movie Stuff

Patch Version: 1.63.5.024002

What I've tried:

Running the game without any cc or mods
Deleting the Sims 3 folder in My Documents and letting the game re-make it
Testing to see if the freezes correlate with my laptop overheating (they don't, the game will freeze straight after loading while the laptop is still cool)
Turning off story progression (the game froze 2 seconds later)
Making sure nothing else is running at the same time

Character limit is too small to post dxdiag results or anything like that, but let me know if there's anything else you need to know.

Try resetting all your Sims in your town with resetsim *To do so

Open the cheat console with ctl-shift-c
Type resetsim * (including the *)

As far as I'm aware that hasn't worked for anyone else who's had this problem because you can't enter the console during the freezes and resetting when it's not frozen doesn't prevent it. However, I'll give it a try within the next half an hour and edit this post to say whether or not it worked.

At best it seems to have reduced the frequency of the freezes but since I started it up today the game has frozen twice, once so bad that even the background animations froze as well.
