Launcher & ITF [MAC]

So I bought and installed Into The Future on Origin today.

I had to patch my macbook as it originally wasn't showing up on the Launcher.

Into The Future is the first game I've bought online, the rest are all from CD's but my macbook has no dvd drive so I won't have to plug mine in from USB if I download, or so I thought.

Once patched, Into The Future appeared in colour on the Launcher, to say it's working. But once I click play, it loaded for a few seconds, then crashed. When reopened it stayed frozen on the plumbob screen.

I tried the launcher over ride, however that didn't work so I changed it back - now I get an error message that says the game can't start as it's already running - even when it isn't. I've tried making sure origin isn't online or running, and still get the error message.

Into The Future appears in my installed apps folder, as does the readme. i'm not sure what to do, and game and CC were all working fine until I installed Into The Future! My macbook uses Yosemite.

  • Hi @celrho,

Can you provide more info about your Mac?

Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of your desktop and select About This Mac. Please provide the following information (you may need to click on "More Info" depending on what operating system you're running:

    - Operating System (Version)
    - Mac model
    - Processor
    - Memory (RAM)
    - Graphics

    - Are you running any antivirus?
    - Do you have Time Machine/Spotify/Dropbox or similar running?

    - Do you use CC/Mods? If so, have you tried removing them and seeing if that fixes your problem?

"Accept as solution" = "This solved my problem!" / "¡Esto ha solucionado el problema!"

    OS X Yosemite 10.10.4

Macbook Pro Retina display (early 2015 model)

    2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

    8GB

Intel Iris Graphics (aware this isn't supported - however game was running with a few minor crashes before ITF was installed, once in actual game play mode the game ran fine for a few hours, it also doesn't say it is Intel Iris Pro)

no antivirus or anything else installed.

all CC and Mods were working fine with game when it was running, now it will either say 'cannot start game when it is already running' or an error when I try and start it, which leads to the screen freezing.

The only thing I can think of is the manual override coding hasn't been reverted back to normal.

Your issues are caused by Intel Iris Graphics, TS3 have lots of issues with that chip because it's not officially supported. It doesn't care if it is Iris or Iris Pro, the game can't work properly with that graphic chip.

You can try this workaround to see if that helps.

If that doesn't help, you can also try bypassing the launcher. Here you can learn how to do it.

I'll try that, thank you. Although I still don't understand why the game was able to run with anything bar the standard Mac issues before I bought Into The Future, or if that was that just a fluke.

Does that have anything to do with the fact the Launcher won't start the game, or is that a separate issue?

  • Having looked through that thread, there's no fix for Intel Iris (just Intel Iris Pro) and I'm not sure I want to try and change files without knowing the changes needed for Intel Iris.

At this rate, I want a refund for ITF. I feel absoluely robbed and disheartened that EA are selling these games on the Origin Store without specifying they don't work with Intel Iris graphics cards/aren't able to be used on Macs especially as I only had the standard Mac issues when I was playing before ITF, and my game had mods, CC, downloaded content as well as Pets, Island Paradise, Supernatural, Late Night, Town Life, World Adventures, High End Loft Stuff, Fast Lane Stuff, Ambitions, Generations and University Life installed. No idea this problem occurred or I wouldn't have wasted £30 on ITF and would have put my money towards Sims 4 instead as it's so expensive.

    @celrho

You can totally try those steps with Intel Iris, you just need to take your devide ID like explained and edit the GraphicsCard.sgr file.

If you want to get a refund, please use EA Help Center.
