Leaving university has caused multiple issues.

After experiencing a bug where I could not enter the student union building, I still managed to finish my first term with good grades and left. upon returning to my town, I had to manually move my sim back into their previous apartment with the town editor. I then realised after a day or two that I had no skills, relationships or progress towards my degree.

I would have expected my sim to return to their apartment automatically as they still own the property, but my money reset and I had to purchase the same lot again. My inventory is still the same, however. I can't explain why it would reset such important attributes to zero just because I travelled from one place to another?

Unfortunately I do not have a save present before I returned home, so now all my progress has been removed from that sim. Is there any reason or solution?

  • I launch my game and continue on with my normal save (I only have one) which was saved roughly half an hour ago, however, I am now in a completely different lot, one that I had previously moved into at the very start of my play through.

Somehow the game has decided to revert back to a save at the very beginning of my playthrough (it appears). I have absolutely no clue as to how or why this would happen. I have made zero changes to my game since saving, exiting and continuing. Mo mods, no cc or add-ons have been installed in the time between playing. So a lot of progress and time have been lost, as well as the apartment that I was living in and the things I owned. Either the game has reverted back to an old save and deleted my most recent one, or it has decided to move my character to a different lot for no reason of my own.

I had just encountered a bug when leaving university, that completely wiped my character of all relationships, skills and progress. And now I have been set back to the very start with little to no money in an empty lot. When I thought I had encountered a game breaking bug, nope, here's another one that's just as bad!

Please give me a reason to keep on trying to play this game, I'm losing all hope here. Any solutions or ideas?

  • @KalumWhyte  There are mod-related ways to cheat progress onto your sim, but without mods, no, you can't restore what was lost.  It sounds like the travel transition failed, which is not uncommmon, and specifically that it failed to reconcile your sim's new progress with the old version that existed before they traveled to University.  So the new data is gone from this save.

If the game's automatic backup is still intact, you could try loading that, but it sounds like it might not be.  Still, you can try.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Saves, and look for a folder with your save name and a .backup extension.  Rename it and delete the .backup part, and the save will be available to load from the Main Menu.

Having said that, it sounds like this particular save has enough issues that it might be best to start fresh.  I don't know what your position on mods is in general, but for Sims 3, the best ones clean up a lot of junk data before it can corrupt your save, and also fix bugs and glitches that were never officially patched.  I'd strongly recommend NRaas ErrorTrap, Overwatch, MasterController, Register, and Traveler; you can find more information here:

Without mods, it's inevitable that you'll run into some problems, although perhaps only ones that can be worked around without too much pain.  It really varies from one player to another.  I can give suggestions for how to do so, but it really is easier to install the mods that do the work for you, and have a longer reach than anything from the player side.
