@bluebellflora thanks for replying!
i've already tried to download the superpatch, but when i click it (.tgz file) it turns to a .cpgz or a .part file, and then i click that one and it turns to a .tgz file again, and it goes on and on like this. i've already downloaded the unarchiver, stufftl, unrarx and izip unarchiver but they don't seem to work ☹️
You should have Archive Utility on your Mac which will expand the folder. When you double click on the download it should open automatically and look like this:
If it doesn't, open Archive Utility by using Spotlight. Click on the little magnifying glass, top right of your screen and start typing Archive Utility. Hit enter when it comes up to open it then go to File > Expand Archive. Navigate to your downloads folder and select the superpatch. When opened it will look like this in your Downloads folder:
Click the expanded file with the plumbob and you should be able to patch. If you get this:
go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General then click the lock, enter your password and change the 'Allow apps downloaded from' to Anywhere (make sure you change it back after patching!).
This probably won't help your situation because ultimately your graphics card is the problem but you should at least be patched up to date before trying the workaround.
