[MAC] Sims 3 Won't Launch

  • Origin ID: maddieclaire8
  • Are you opted into the Origin Beta?: No
  • OS X version: 10.8.5
  • Processor, Memory and Graphics card information: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 34 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 384 MB
  • Expansions you have/have active: World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, High End Loft
  • Any error message received: The Sims 3     Unable to start game     Service initialization failed (0x0175dcbb)
  • A detailed description of what is occurring: I go to my games on Origin and click play on the Sims 3. I have no expansions downloaded onto my computer yet, and am just trying to run the base for now. When I press play, it gives me the registration code and tells me the game will open in an outside launcher. Then, I get the blue screen with the plumbob and then the said error message appears.
  • A detailed description of any troubleshooting you have already attempted: I have uninstalled and reinstalled Origin.

  • Hey there,

There hasn't been a proper fix for this issue, but I still have a few steps that may be in help of you:

    1. Go to the Disk Utility and verify your disk permissions and disk. If the Disk Utility finds any problem with your disk permissionss, then click "Repair Disk Permissions". If there is something wrong with your disk, shut down your computer, and turn on your computer using Recovery HD. To do that, while your computer starts up, hold Command+D keys on your keyboard. The Disk Utility will show up and there repair you disk (once again, if there's something wrong with the disk itself.)

    2. Sorry to say this, but you may need to uninstall The Sims 3 and its expansions (in your case you don't have any expansions) from your Mac. Yes, it doesn't sound nice at all, but it may resolve your issues. Again, it MAY or MAY NOT. You take the risk.

ALSO, looking at yout graphics card, I have to say that Intel HD 4000 is NOT the proper graphics card to play the game with. In fact, it is a chipset, not a card at all! Everything but your graphics card seems OK to me, and that may (or may not) be the problem.

These are all the solutions I can think of right now. If you encounter any problems, have questions about the steps or if the steps work, please let me know.

    Good Luck
