[MAC] update 1.66.2 Sims 3 Island Paradise
I know that I just talked to someone on here. But it didn't do anything. On the 14 of January I downloaded the update 1.66.2 on my sims game. Now when I load it, it says that there is no disc please ...

Ok, sounds like you patched via the Launcher. Check that the number on the Launcher is updated to the new patch number. If not then try the manual patch: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/549552.page
You wouldn't lose your saved games if you had to reinstall, you can back them up then add them again so don't worry about that. To begin with, try the stuff under "primary things to try first" in the first post of the main Mac help thread:

Your current folder will just sit safely on the desktop so nothing will be lost.
If you cannot get the disc working and want to the Origin, you would only need to uninstall and reinstall Island Paradise, not the whole lot.

So I went to the sims 3.com and downloaded the patch you told me about. It downloaded went in my downloading file, but when I clicked on it. It brought up my different folders asking me to download to which file. I chose users and clicked update. Then it looked like it was downloading but then said "You cannot apply this patch on this version of application please re-install" I know zipp about this part of computers. What am I doing wrong?

- Oh dear. This isn't going too well! Did you definitely download the right manual patch for your region? When you have the file downloaded and doubl-click on it, it should ask you to choose a location to apply the patch. You should select the base game install files. These will be in the section of your Mac called Application. In there you should see a folder called "The Sims 3". Inside that folder there should be shortcut icons for the base game as well as any other installed expansions. That's where you want to direct the manual patch.
Good luck! Well after a nights rest I picked up where I left off and the problem is still very much there. I did everything you guys suggested to a T. I don't know what else to do. Any other suggestions? I talked to some tech guy yesterday before I got on here to this HQ section. The tech guy didn't really sound like he knew what he was doing and he gave me pretty much the same thing as Crin stated.
Do you think I should buy another expansion? Do you think that would fix the issure. I would hate to do so since the new one is coming out soon. But I can't wait a year to be a bum and play games. Ya' know. lol Any other ideas?

I don't think that buying another expansion would help you, although it's your choice of course. The reason I think it won't help is that the patch that came with the final expansion (ITF) was 1.63 and the latest one was 1.66, which you'd have to get through the Launcher or superpatch anyway. So adding any more expansions beyond those that you already have would not give you any advance on the patch level that you can already get.
Also, although it's a good idea to get patched up to date, the original issue that is preventing you from playing actually seems to be with your current disc rather than the patch. It is still possible that the disc is simply damaged and cannot be recognised by the game, but unless the store that sold it to you is willing to give you a replacement, there's not much you can do about that.
Instead of buying another expansion, I would suggest trying Origin. I personally have developed a hatred of Origin as it seems to go wrong, but seeing as your game's not working anyway, you don't have much to lose!
If you have Time Machine for your Mac, you should first run that to make a backup in case you want to go back.
Uninstall your last expansion pack (Island Paradise) using the uninstaller and by trashing any transgaming files for Island Paradise using the instructions in BluebellFlora's guide (BUT don't trash the others unless you want to uninstall the whole thing). http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/
Once you've got rid of the disc-dependent version of the installation, you can register the code with Origin and download it from there. I will paste instructions below on how to have the best chance of success doing this. If you can get it installed through Origin then the disc will not longer matter as you won't need one to play.
To download and install games through Origin:
First install the Origin client for Mac and make sure it is up-to-date. The latest version can be downloaded from here: http://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download
Additional advice on how to download games (thank you Tremayne for this tip):
When downloading from Origin, do NOT use the first install icon. Move your cursor over the game cover and click on the information (letter i) and then click on the install button from there.
For some reason, downloads from Origin frequently become corrupted. Using the i reduces the chance of your download being corrupted. If you have already been unfortunate and have a corrupted download, then it is important to remove all traces of this before trying again, by doing a thorough, clean uninstallation first.
