The game screen freeze

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my game for some time. I play TheSims3 on Mac. I played Sims3 for 1hour, the game was working perfectly and then my game screen froze. The game in the background was working, because I heard game sounds, when I clicked pause I heard that "pause sound", the cursor was moving, so basically I hear I'm clicking on something but I have no reaction on the screen. It froze in one frame and I have to forcibly close the game because it won't unfreeze. I had some trouble before that, I couldn't open the game at all because it froze at launching screen, but magically the problem disappeared. I'm opening it through EA app.

PS. I don't have any modes

Thanks !

  • JULIAwj  If this has only happened one time, you might be able to ignore it.  If it happens again though, please let me know whether the two instances had anything in common: what you clicked just before, what your sims were doing or what lot they were on, anything on-screen that's unusual (wild horses, aliens, whatever).  And let me know what world you've been playing in as well.

The fact is the game doesn't run perfectly in macOS.  It runs "fine" for the most part, but there are issues here and there that the Windows version and the old 32-bit Mac version don't have.  That doesn't mean that any issues are unfixable, only that the experience isn't going to be perfect.

Thanks for the reply. This has happened before, but I had a break from playing The Sims 3. Yesterday I played for an hour in the Appaloosa Plains world, and the screen froze when my Sim was in the park.

As I mentioned, I could still move the cursor and hear that I was clicking on things, so when I clicked to close The Sims 3, I could hear that the save window appeared on the screen. Even though I couldn’t see it, I clicked from memory where the “Save” option is, and I managed to save the game.

I closed the game and then launched it again several times, and each time it started from the saved moment and immediately froze on the screen. So unfortunately it wasn't for a short amount of time. I know that the game doesn’t run smoothly on macOS, I was fine with minor lags. However, at that moment the game completely froze.

  • JULIAwj  Please list the full specs of your Mac: everything under About This Mac including the OS and except for the serial number.  Some older Macs don't handle the Pets expansion well, or rather certain pets and wild animals, so that could be triggering the freezing.

  • JULIAwj  Right, your laptop is one of those that doesn't handle Pets well.  You could try disabling it, although any save that used it would be corrupted once the expansion was removed.  (And of course you couldn't load Appaloosa Plains at all without it.)  But if you really want to play with Pets, I can describe how to control the population of strays, wild horses, deer, and raccoons.  I'm not sure this would fix the issue, but it's not all that difficult to try.
