No Heart-Shape cut available.

Hi anyone.

I have been trying to create a SimBot as a invention 'Expansion pack Ambitions'

All was going well until I had to provide a heart-shaped pink diamond.

The game I played was with the base game and expansion pack 'Ambitions' only. I had been collection gems for 15 game weeks (Longer than the default age of any Sim).

I had found the following gems:

01, Blue Topaz
02, Emerald
03, Diamond Pink
04, Diamond White
05, Fluorite
06, Luminorius
07, Ruby
08, Smoky Quartz
09, Tanzanite
10, Yellow Sapphire

With these finds I should have gained the Gem Collector's Challenge, 'Collect 10 unique gems', however, I didn't.

I was able to obtain a 'Rainbow Gem' from the mod created treasure Box 'Created by treeag', However, gems obtained this way do not add the challenge count.

I tried an experiment and opened a new game with only the base game in play and again used the treasure box, there where only 10 gems listed 'Fluorite' not being one of them.

Omitting the fluorite from my finds I had only 9 gems.  Does the challenge only count the gems from the Base Game? Any Ideas?

  • @roberta591  Well, my data is from playing the game and observing the details.  But since that's not definitive proof, I figured why not test it myself, again.

I modded a new save so my sim had a 100% chance of breaking a stone sculpture and finding fluorite, which he did, and then I placed a giant pile of spawners on an empty lot.  My sim collected nine of the ten base game gems, only missing the luminorious gem, and thus was credited with the Gem Collector achievement and had the heart-shaped cut available.

@BillFlowerpot  Not to derail this thread completely, I did notice that gems my sim found while using the Miner didn't count towards the achievement and didn't unlock the heart-shaped cut.  So please check the collection journal, not the one under the Skills tab but the green journal icon in the Inventory tab, and make sure your sim is actually credited with finding ten gems.

  • @BillFlowerpot  The gem collector challenge definitely counts gems from World Adventures at least.  I don't know from personal experience whether fluorite counts, but it should as well.

Just checking, but did one sim collect all of these gems?  The challenge is per sim, not per household.  Please also check the sim's collection journal to see whether all of these gems are listed as found.  Open the collection journal by clicking the little green journal icon you see when you open the sim's inventory.

@BillFlowerpot   The one you are missing is the rainbow gem. The Flourite Palmstone is not part of the ten. Getting the gems cut is not random - there is an order.

@roberta591  Given that the World Adventures gems count towards the ten, it seems reasonable that fluorite would too.  I have several sims that have completed the challenge without collecting all ten base game gems, just not any that did it with fluorite.

Thank you Puzzlezadict & Robert591 for responding to my enquiry.

Puzzlezadict, I think you have put your finger on it, I remember finding a gem with the miner, I'm almost sure it was a white diamond. I did not realize that such finds don't add to the 'Collector's challenge'. I did check to see if I had passed a gem from one family member to another, as I know that does not add to the challenge count. I also think that the same is true for gems found in tomb chests in 'World Adventures'. However, only my inventor had collected any gems. That is why I was so puzzled to why the 10 different gems I had in my inventory did not trigger the completion of the challenge. WELL SPOTTED THERE.
