No leaves falling during fall?

Hi so I'm really confused with this issue and would like some advice. Did TS3 have an effect of leaves falling from trees during fall or is it only a TS4 thing? I remember the effect of leaves falling from the trees during fall for TS3 but now I'm not so sure as in my game I'm in fall now and there are no leaves falling from the leaves (they just appear on the ground).

Can anyone confirm if there is a visual effect of leaves slowly falling to the ground?

  • Okay they just started showing up randomly, I guess it takes a few days in Fall for the visual effects to start showing up even though leaves are already on the ground.

  • @wexxam  There should be a visual effect of leaves falling, at least from everything I've read.  (It's been a while since I had a good look around during fall.)  What graphics settings are you using?  Try ultra if you're not already using it, if only for a few sim-minutes.  Change the settings at the Main Menu and quit to desktop before loading a save.

Oh this is such a strange bug then. I’m already playing with max settings. Do you have any clue on how I can fix this?

  • @wexxam  What graphics card do you have?  There's an issue with newer AMD cards and a lack of shadows, so I wouldn't be surprised if some other visual effects were erroneously disabled on some GPUs.

I have an RTX 3080 so I don't think that's the issue. Also I just watched some old trailers of Seasons and it does look like leaves do show falling onto the ground so this is definitely an issue. I will keep investigating.

  • @wexxam  Is your graphics card recognized [Found: 1, Matched: 1] in DeviceConfig.log, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3?  And is the VRAM recognized?  That's the "texture memory" setting a few lines down from the GPU name.  If you're seeing the 32 MB override, that's easily fixed and might also account for the missing leaves.

This is not a problem with your GPU per se but rather the game's inability to properly assess newer cards.

It says 0 for both and I know of the app to fix it but I don't think it ever made a difference in my game when I did it and when I didn't so I just opted not to. Should I use the app to fix this? And yes I am seeing 32MB for the texture memory section.

  • @wexxam  You can use the app, or you can add your GPU and address the texture memory issue by hand if you prefer.  In the latter case, if you'd like help, please post the section of DeviceConfig between Graphics device info and Options, where you found the previous information, and I'll write out the instructions.

If you do use the app instead, make sure to launch the game once before checking DeviceConfig again, and let me know what you find.

I used the app and launched the game but I still don't see any leaves falling. ☹️
