Old Sims 3 save file crashes while loading after game repair

So I had a save I was playing with CC, but everything was fine. I had a little issue with my password, contacted the support and they recommended me to use the "Repair" function in Origin. I did that, created a new password and it worked this time. BUT after that I wanted to load my save and it crashed (no error message or code). I can create a new save which works, so the problem is not with the game.

Things I already tried to fix it:

- removing the Mods folder
- running the game from file manager and as administrator

- deleting the cache

- removing the save and using the backup save (here it succesfully loaded, but a lot of the items from my sim's inventory are missing, the houshold funds are correct in build mode, but 0 simoleon in live mode, the pic of my sim is missing and some walls are colored different + some plants and a little terrain paint is missing)

- repairing the game again

- downloading the DasmX86Dll.dll file (i found a text file for every crash which occured and there was this part in them: "007b0670 => DasmX86Dll.dll not found" so I figured maybe downloading the file and placing it in the correct folder would help, but not...)

It isn't the CC, beacuse after the last time I played it was fine and didn't download anything since then.

Could someone please help? (I attached the .txt file I was talking about)

  • @jzsuzsi  Please make sure all your packs are loading correctly.  If they're not, uncheck the boxes next to the packs in the launcher and check them again.

More importantly though, when you launch the game, something running on your computer is already taking up most of your memory.  Your 8 GB installed is more than enough for Sims 3 and Windows, but it's not really enough for heavy multitasking while you play.  Windows 10 itself should only use about 2 GB, at least on startup; older versions use less.  Maybe you have a few different browser tabs open?  Regardless, try restarting your computer before launching, and don't open anything except Origin before playing.

This save sounds like it might be on its way to being corrupt though, given what happens when you load the backup.  What mods do you use?  You can list them here, except for any that contain adult content.  If you have any of those, just list the creator or use initials, so I know which one(s) you're referencing.  Or, if you have a lot of them, you can take a screenshot or two of your Mods\Packages folder.  Some mods can help fix corruption, while others can introduce more problems.

    Finally, this:

is unnecessary and potentially dangerous to your system, depending on where you found the file.  The error is somewhat misleading—if the game were really missing a critical .dll, it wouldn't run at all or at the very least it would crash in a new save as well.  The crash logs are mostly useless, other than the report on memory use towards the beginning.  And the repair should have fixed any outstanding issues with the game's program files anyway.

Thank you for your respond puzzlezaddict!

So, at first I had a look at the expansion packs and I'm not sure how turning them on and off works, but both of them were unchecked, so I checked them. That's interesting, because I remember having the Pets loading screen yesterday, but when the backup save was loaded, the missing items were all from the World Adventures pack. Anyway I started the game, picked the original save and it loaded! There are all of the things which were missing, everything is correct, except for one wallpaper which is in a different color.

After that I removed the .dll file from the folder and started the game again. It still works! (Well, except for that one wallpaper :D)

I think the problem was, that repairing the game made the DLCs unchecked and without them the save couldn't load, because I've been playing with them heavily. And that's why the backup save was so strange.

Thank you very much for your help! I would have never thinked about checking the DLCs, because long time ago when the Sims 4 wasn't released I've been playing with the Sims 3 and never had this issue (and now I didn't find any forum posts about someone having this solution). Origin caused the problem, which I didn't have back then (I had the game on CD and now I bought it on Origin, because I can't put CDs in my new laptop).

@jzsuzsi  The pack selector is Origin-only, and it was introduced in a patch in November 2015, so I'm not surprised you never ran into it before now.  And the game not loading one or more packs that your save uses can definitely cause all kinds of errors, up to and including preventing a world from loading.  For whatever reason, the game will sometimes uncheck the boxes next to certain packs, and sometimes it won't recognize that the boxes are checked, so going over the list of packs is always a good idea if your save won't load or is missing items.

One thing that does wipe the pack selection is clearing the cache for Internet Explorer (yes, IE, not Edge).  So if you're ever having trouble making your selection stick, try that.  And if you clear IE's cache for some other reason, or you have a cleaner app that removes temp files, all the packs may become deselected.
