Origin and store content issues following macOS update to Ventura 13.4

Hi--apologies if this shouldn't be its own topic or is otherwise in the wrong place, but here goes:

After updating macOS yesterday to Ventura 13.4, Origin stopped working for me. It wouldn't let me sign in, wouldn't let me work offline, and had to be force quit to close. Uninstalling, redownloading, and reinstalling Origin resolved the issue of not being able to log in or work offline, and I can now sign in, load the launcher, and load the game, though Origin does still need to be force quit to exit afterwards, as it becomes unresponsive once the game is quit.

Worse, when I do load the game, none of my store worlds (I had all of them except for Barnacle Bay) are present, and the majority (~75%) of my other store content is missing. It looks as though only articles downloaded and installed within the last couple of months are present. I have tried the following without success:

1. Moving /The Sims 3 to desktop, starting the launcher to create a new folder, logging into the store with the same ID, and trying to download one item from the store--I receive the error shown in the attached screenshot.

2. Restoring the Downloads, InstalledWorlds, and WorldCaches folders from a backup made mid-April.

3. Keeping Origin in offline mode.

Any help is deeply appreciated. I feel like I'm running out of tricks here!

  • @6f2ae57bac50a77e  Thanks for the screenshot, which shows the cause of the error: the launcher isn't even seeing the Sims 3 base game as installed.  (All the icons along the bottom of the launcher are grayed out.)  This is or at least has been due to some missing .plist files, which you should be able to restore, for the base game at least, by repairing Sims 3.  Please run the Origin reset tool first:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/

The repair option shows when you open your Origin library and right-click the Sims 3 icon.

However, it's certainly possible that uninstalling Origin removed the .plist files, and they were present when this problem started.  So please let me know if this doesn't help and we can go from there.  Please also let me know whether the launcher's base game icon lights up after the repair.

This did the trick! Thank you so much. I reset Origin per the linked instructions. I couldn't find a "repair" option for the game when I right-clicked, but there was an "update" option, so I chose that, silly as it sounds for a game that hasn't received an update in a decade. Now everything is running smoothly again, and all my content is back. Thank you, thank you!

@puzzlezaddictHi there, I'm having the same issue and have tried all methods above.

Moving The Sims 4 to the desktop to create a new file, deleting and reinstalling the origin app, repairing origin app.

However when I enter my log in information It repeatedly showing the loading circle and stops responding. Thinking It may be a network issue with the Ventura update itself somehow blocking the app.

@desireaj  Are you playing Sims 3 or 4?  This is the Sims 3 forum.

At any rate, if this is just an Origin issue, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall as described in this article.

If that doesn't help, and you have two-factor authentication enabled on this account, please try disabling it.  Go to ea.com, sign in, open your account settings, then Security, and turn off Login Verification.
