Origin won't start

I haven't played Sims 3 in a while. The launcher never opened on its own so I click on origin, my games then on sims 3 then the launcher would pop up and i would play my game. Recently I have wanted to play Sims 3 and now I can't. I have clicken on Sims 3 and origin tried seeing if there was viruses or problems. Nothing has worked. Origin when clicked on comes up with a small box saying Origin updating. Then it says something like installing updates this may take a few minutes. It is then supposed to open but it just closes and no problems are reported. My games are registered and I have windows 8. I have not got windows 8.1 or anything so i don't see why I can't play my game.

    SO if you check if you left it on on any other computer if not the restart computer
