That is a disc error. It will be fixed by downloading the digital version via Origin.
Have you logged into the Sims 3 Store site and checked your account history? That may explain your Simpoint issue 🙂
Why exactly is this a disc error? I have never had a disc error before, and I never had problems running the game from the disc. Is this going to continue with every new extension pack I purchase? I really want to understand why this has suddenly started to occur. Is it because of El Capitan, or because of non-compatibility between the Sims3 program and El Capitan, or for some other reason? Or is there no explainable reason? Just wondering if you or anyone else has an answer to that question. I just want to comprehend the issue and the reason for the issue, not just 'that is how it is' response.

It's a disc error because it involves the disc. It has been around for years but is affecting more people since they upgraded to El Capitan. There seems to be no specific reason for it (although logically, I'm sure there is) but it is not game breaking as the solution is to play the digital download version. I'd love to know the reason for it too 🙂
