Paradise island

i downloaded sims 3 & island paradise, but i dont know how to actually get to paradise island. can someone help?

  • @simoelon  Your game folder is also labeled "The Sims 3," but it's in Documents\Electronic Arts.  You can leave that for now though.

Island Paradise hasn't been installed, which is why you aren't seeing it.  Open Origin, click on your game library and then the Sims 3 icon, and find the dropdown menu that says More at the bottom of the screen.  Open it and select Expansion Packs.  Scroll to Island Paradise; it's the fourth one down.  Click the button to download, and Origin should take care of it.  Origin itself is being a bit balky for me this morning, so if you see a blank space where IP should be listed, quit Origin and relaunch it.

  • @simoelon  Isla Paradiso, the world that comes with the Island Paradise expansion pack, is a homeworld, just like Sunset Valley.  To play there, you'll need to start a new save in IP using the Main Menu, or else move your existing sims there.  The in-game move (by phone) isn't a good idea though—it's likely to transfer corruption from the old homeworld to the new one.  You're better off saving your sims to the bin, saving their house separately if you want to keep it, starting a new game in IP (be sure to quit to desktop first), and using Edit Town to place your sims there.

A word of warning:  The world of Isla Paradiso is so broken that it's almost unplayable without serious edits.  You may want to download a fixed version instead.  A player named ciane has offered her own work for download, and she's also documented the edits necessary to make the game playable for those who'd prefer to do the work themselves.

For what it's worth, the features of the expansion pack work very well, and you can place them in any world that has room and deep enough water.

@simoelon  It's totally fine to keep asking; that's what this site is for.

When you click the New Game button at the Main Menu, which worlds are listed in the dropdown menu?  You should see all the ones you have installed, except for the ones that come with World Adventures, University, or Into the Future.  If Isla Paradiso isn't on the list, then the pack hasn't been installed, or it's not active.  If this is an Origin install in Windows, make sure that IP is checked off in the launcher's Expansions and Stuff tab.

When I click New Game button Isla Paradiso does not come up. I downloaded it from origin on my mac. When i go onto Origin to see if it is installed, it says it is installed, but does not come up on main menu. How do i make sure IP is checked off in the launchers expansions tab?

@simoelon  I didn't realize you were on a Mac.  In that case, the launcher won't have the tab for expansion and stuff packs; the game is supposed to load them all.

It's weird that IP isn't listed.  Can you check if the content made it into your Applications folder?  First, make sure that IP has its own icon in Applications\The Sims 3, alongside the base game icon.  If not, then it isn't installed, whatever Origin says.

Next, start a new game, pick some random family, and go into Buy mode.  Can they buy a boat?  (It should be in vehicles, although I haven't looked recently.)  If not, then none of the IP content is there.

If the IP content is there, then try dragging your entire TS3 game folder out of Documents and onto your desktop.  This isn't the folder in Applications, but rather the one that stores your user data.  Perhaps something in there is corrupted.

In one of my applications i have 3 things related to sims 3:

    TheSims tm 3
    The Sims tm 3 Readme.txt
    The Sims tm 3 Uninstaller
there is nothing there related Isla Paradiso, no texts that say IP or icons. But when i go to Origin it says it is purchased and when I click on it, its says view in library, and it just goes to sims 3. In sims 3 Sunset Valley is the only world i can pay in bc the rest of them cost sims points that i don't have.

Also where do I find my game folder?
