I'm really wanting to update my game so I can download store content and other CAW Worlds made by others, but every time I try to update from my game launcher it freezes up then reads 'The Sims 3 Lau...

I've tried this but sadly the update will run then crash saying 'Invalid file' even when I ran it is as an adminstrator :/
Try the 1.4 GB superpatch instead of the incremental one.
