Are you using any custom content or mods in your game ? Does the game also crash in live mode or is it just CAS that's giving you issues ?

I have no custom content. I also looked at that link and I have many xcpt files but they might aswell be speaking another language to me.

What about live mode ? Does that work or does the game crash as well ?

I get a very similar problem. Occasionally when I play, I get the "error send report" or something along those lines. I've been having it for so long that I'm actually completely unfazed about it but it's really irritating when you've been playing for over a hour and it suddenly dies and you haven't saved.
I've got quite a lot of custom content and my game only crashes either in live mode or when it's loading a town or something. (Usually when I'm going to/returning from France.)
Any suggestions?

I feel your pain! I also have the same issue with going to/returning from France. I also am relatively used to it myself. Just made a post cause I was playing for 2 hours no save and trying to finish a quest in France. Never the less didn't make it to France. :{

I can never make it to live mode. I just downloaded the game after getting a new laptop and I have to create my first new sim. Needless to say I never make it past dressing my Sim

You don't have to start off your game by creating a sim. (I know that's what you probably want to do but in this case...)
You can choose a household or move in a household.
If you use these options what happens?
