Rarity glitch

I have TS3, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, and Seasons expansion packs and Katy Perry's Sweet Treats and Diesel stuff packs.  I don't have any mods and my game is version 16.0.136.020001 - I have to updates only download to 99% for some reason so I have to do it manually and haven't got around to it yet.

There seems to be a rarity glitch in my game in that rare events keep happening. For example, death flowers and money tree seeds keep generating outside my house, an alien has come to my house (but didn't abduct me), I've met a unicorn when I don't have any pets, I've been hit by meteors 5 times, I've found 3 rare birds and 2 turtles without even looking for them, and there are wild flowers popping up everywhere. Also, bills aren't being delivered, newspapers and the maid only come once (and I think it should be they come every day once you ask for them?) and every time I quit the game (saving it, obviously) all of my relationships disappear. I started up a new game (albeit with the same Sim and in the same property) and within 2 days playing time I've been hit by a meteor twice and the alien has visited again.

Is there any way I can sort this out? As much as I've enjoyed being able to cheat the Grim Reaper, I would like to be able to play a game normally without getting hit by a meteor every 10 minutes.
