I've been having a similar issue with my game! It was working fine for a little while, but now I can't use it b/c of the issues it's causing. I had my sim can a few goods at the station, and everything was fine at first. Then all of a sudden, my sim can no longer interact with any sims beyond greeting them for the first time. The canned goods are stacked in the inventory in sets of 3. Right when the interaction glitch started, I also noticed that all of the canned items became unstacked in the sims inventory, as well as the image going blank. So I ended up with a huge # of blank squares. Hovering over the box doesn't show what the item is. Also, when I remove the items from the inventory and place them on a surface to interact with the jars, my sim can't interact with them anymore. The only thing I can do at this point is sell off the goods so that my sim can interact with people/her pets. I don't use any mods, and I don't use a huge amount of custom content.
None of the things I've tried has fixed the problem, including relocating my sim and basically starting her all over again.
