Re: Items placed in inventory are disappearing after resetSim at death

@killernarwhal927  First of all, this issue won't affect your other saves.  Whatever is wrong with your sim is only wrong within the one save.  And uninstalling and reinstalling wouldn't help either, since the issue is the save itself, not the program data.

When you ran the MC reset, did it reset your sim as well?  There's an option to exclude the active lot from the reset, which would also exclude your sim.  If you're not sure, you can reset just the sim: click on him and select NRaas > MC > Advanced > Reset Sim.  Then "save as," quit, delete the cache files, reload, and see what happens.

If that doesn't help, it would be a good idea to add NRaas ErrorTrap and Overwatch, which clean up a lot of low-level corruption before it becomes major.  That plus another MC reset might help.  Since your sim is going to travel, it would be helpful to add NRaas Traveler as well.

As far as whether the issues will clear up when your sim returns home, it's possible, but not overwhelmingly likely.

I do think this issue is probably caused by the resetsim during death, not your Relativity settings.  One of the processes that happens during death is that the contents of the dying sim's inventory are transferred to an heir, usually another sim in the household.  (I think they might just poof if there's no one to inherit.)  Interrupting the death sequence can leave the various associated processes half finished and still firing.

If the additional mods and the MC reset don't help, you might need to revert to a backup save, that is if you have one.  It sounds like you've saved at least twice since the issue happened, in which case the game's automatic backup would have been overwritten, but maybe you kept a backup yourself.

  • Thanks so much for the reply! Lots of great insight, thank you. I do believe that the MC reset also reset my Sim because he popped up in front of the dorm with all the other Sims. It was after the Reset All Objects that I did a save/quit and deleted the caches and ran the repairs. When I rebooted and saw that it didn't work, I just quit without saving because I got fed up, ha! So I may still have a backup save, I'm not sure.

Iplan to check soon, but I wanted to thank you for your reply and insight. Perhaps you're right that I just interrupted the death sequence, and I only have the one Sim right now so maybe the items really are just poofing to nowhere. That's what makes the most sense to me. I'm still new to using mods, so forgive me if this is a silly question, but how would the other mods you suggested be helpful for this kind of thing? I'll have to take a look at them, thank you!

@killernarwhal927  ErrorTrap catches errors as it finds them, the kind of data cleanup a game should do but Sims 3 does not.  It removes or rebuilds the missing or corrupt data, or reports that it can't, and spits out a scripterror describing what it finds.  Overwatch scans for various kinds of problems, everything from vehicles that should be deleted to sims that are overdue to age up to wandering toddlers.  The two mods together are extremely helpful for the overall stability of saves.

The regular and backup saves are in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves, labeled with your save name.  So if your save is SunsetValley, there would be a folder labeled SunsetValley.sims3 and another labeled SunsetValley.sims3.backup.  Rename the backup and delete the .backup extension (e.g. SunsetValley1.sims3), and you'll be able to load it from the Main Menu.

This is only helpful if the backup is from before your sim started dying, but if it is, then reverting to the backup is probably the best way to go.  Even mods can't always fix certain kinds of corruption, and I'm guessing you don't want to kill off your sim for real just to fix the problem.

  • Turns out there was a backup save created before the death, so I went ahead with that. No issues now, only set back a few Sim days. Thanks for all the information regardless -- I definitely learned a lot. I will have to check out those other mods that you mentioned. Thank you!
