Re: Sims 3 freezing entire screen (Mac)

@joshysven143  Unfortunately, the vertical sync setting in Sims 3 appears to still not work properly.  You could try messing with it though.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3, open options.ini, and search for resolution, which should bring you to a line like this:

resolution = 1024 768 0

Change the 0 to 60, then try enabling the fps limiter to 60 in the game options, at the Main Menu.

If this makes things worse, just delete options.ini and let the game spawn a new copy, which will have all default settings.

You can also try switching to windowed mode to see whether it helps.  If cmd-return doesn't force the switch (try at the Main Menu), editing options.ini to set fullscreen to 0 (zero) will do it.

    When I click that in only gives me the option of "default".

    @joshysven143  Okay, then it's not picking up the setting in options.ini even after you changed it.  That's unfortunate, but not a surprise: I haven't been able to get it to work on my (Intel) Mac either.

    If switching to windowed mode doesn't help, please let me know what version of Big Sur you're running.  It should show in About This Mac.

    So far changing the 0 to a 60 has worked but I will let you know if anything happens.
