Re: Sims 3 introduced to family and multiple members want to play.

If you want to play at the same time, EA requires you to buy multiple games since with the Origin version, only one member can be logged in at one time and with the DVD you need the disc in to start the game.

What ? Do You mean that we have to buy the game three times if three of the family members want to play it and to have an sims community account ?

Sorry, but that is crazy !

You can share but not play at the same time.

A game can only be registered to one account. That's how it is. When you buy the game, you buy a license for one person to play.

You can install on mutliple computers but since you need to login to your Origin account to play when you have the download version or require the disc of the latest EP you have instaled to start the game, you can't play at the same time with only one game.

The EULA says you can install the game on up to 5 computers owned by the holder of the license. You can try if you can play without loggin in to Origin, never tried that cause I don't use Origin and it might work.

To get an offical statement from EA on this, contact Customer Support, I don't really wanna go out on a limb on an official EA forum. EA has security measurements in place and bypassing them is against the TOS. I really don't wanna get in trouble.

Heres' the EULA for the Sims 3:

I've got an answer from a game advisor.

That's our conversation on the chat:

You are now ready to chat with Raghav.

Raghav: Thanks for contacting EA Help! My name is Raghav how may I help you?

you: I asked yesterday the same question but I didn't get an answer, so I ask again today. I have bought the Sims 3 base game and some expansion packs. I installed the game on our home computer and I registered the game and the expansion packs on MY account that I have on the sims community. But I'm not the only one person in the family, that plays with the sims 3 game. My two daughters play the game too and they both have an account on the sims community. Each one of them has her own account. To use some of the game options, for example the features of the expansion pack "Showtime", they have to register the sims 3 games on their accounts too. How can we do that, since I have registered the game on MY sims community account ? They tried to do that and it appears that the product code of the game and the expansion packs are already in use from ME ? Can please somebody give me an answer ? I don't know where else I can ask !

Raghav: Game can only be registered on one account. If you've registered the game on your account, your daughters cannot use the same code. Game cannot be played on multiple systems at one point of time. If all in your family wants to play the game then, they all need different registration code to register on their respective accounts.

you: How do we get different registration codes for one game and the expansion packs ?

Raghav: You need to purchase different games for every account.

    you: WHAT ????????????? That's crazy !

you: EA Games should find a solution for that.

Raghav: I totally understand your point, but all cannot play game on the same time.

Raghav: However, they can use your account to play the game, but that to be on different time.

you: We don't want to play all at the same time. That's not possible, because when I am at the computer, my daughters can't be at the computer at the same time. We only want to register the game, so we can all use the features. Why is that so difficult, and I don't mean You, I mean, why did EA games not thought, that there will be such problems ?

you: It's a shame ! I wanted to buy ALL the expansion packs but in this case, I will think about it, to buy a game from EA games again in the future, until they will find a solution for such problems !

you: Thanks for Your help. I hope You can tell them to find a solution for such problems !

Raghav: I totally understand your frustration on this, but one game cannot be played on multiple account or multiple computers. I'll forward your suggestion to our senior team and they'll look for some other alternatives in these cases.

you: Yes, please do so ! Thanks again ! Have a nice evening !

Most games these days work like this as most games today are linked to an individual game account. You can only register one game to one account. That's the same for pretty much all games nowadays and is also true for services like Steam or uPlay.
