Re: sims 3 there was an error during startup please see the log for more details

I have been having the same problem so I tried vladymiria's solution - it didn't work ☹️

After that I just went into "the sims 3" folder (not the copy folder)

               > Computer > OS ( C: ) > Program Files > Origin Games > The Sims 3 > Game > Bin

Found the TS3.ex_ and simply changed that to TS3.exe (it prompts telling you if you change the file name it may not work correctly, do you still want to change?) Say yes....of course. The icon changes - double click and it worked.

I won't have a chance to play until tomorrow so I don't know if there are any glitches, I'll let you know.

I also have to add, it took a few seconds to start up - I didn't think it worked at first but after about 10 seconds it started.

i had this same problem, no solutions worked. then i discovered the problem is in the registry! the base game entry in the registry is pointing to the wrong location! i also recommend you note down the location that it thinks its in becuz your update files will probably be there and you'll have to move them manually!

i think the update patcher does this if your game is installed anywhere other than the default location which is C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Sims 3 if i remember correctly

incase you dont know or forgot

    • Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
    • Expand the SOFTWARE folder.
      • For 64-bit systems, expand Wow6432Node
    • Expand the Electronic Arts folder.
    • Expand the Sims folder.

This fixed this error for me:

Basically, delete old reg entries in regedit which could be left over from having the game installed previously etc.

I had to delete some from an expansion I had installed before but not anymore.

EDIT (crin): Video removed. Links to videos of that channel or site are against the tos

I found that what fixed for me was if you are on Windows 8 that you need to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and run it as an administrator then it works. I tried all the other solutions and this is the one that finally worked.

If,on the other hand, everything you have done DO NOT apply to your game like I happened to do,PLEASE RE-INSTALL THE LATEST UPDATE.,VERSION 1.64
This will fix almost everything.Have a good day,and enjoy playing!

Found a possible fix! I tried everything in this thread and had no luck - until I looked through the registry more thoroughly. If anyone sees this and nothing has helped: there may be more folders with the same name that has extra packs in them, only they won't be in the same sub folders so they're easy to miss. What I did was uninstall all packs + the base game, then I went into the registry and deleted the folders as described earlier in the thread. After that I scrolled down further and found another folder named "sims" where one pack remained, so I deleted that as well. I also went into Origin Games and deleted one expansion pack that had 'dd' in the name, BUT!, before I did any of this I made sure to export/copy the folders to my desktop (right-click, chose the export option, name file and save) so I had backups just in case. I would advise you to do the same. Now the launcher starts for me just fine 🙂

Literally none of these solutions have worked for me :'(
Done everything on this thread, including clearing the registry of anything sims3 related before re-installing etc.
I still get this Error message. No idea why, because it worked fine a few months ago.
    Log is completely blank......
    HELP :'(
My sims4 has done the same as well, not sure if it's related...
