11 years agoi had this same problem, no solutions worked. then i discovered the problem is in the registry! the base game entry in the registry is pointing to the wrong location! i also recommend you note down the location that it thinks its in becuz your update files will probably be there and you'll have to move them manually!
i think the update patcher does this if your game is installed anywhere other than the default location which is C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Sims 3 if i remember correctly
incase you dont know or forgot
- Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
- Expand the SOFTWARE folder.
- For 64-bit systems, expand Wow6432Node
- Expand the Electronic Arts folder.
- Expand the Sims folder.

What am I supposed to do after I expand these folders in the registry?
- Anonymous9 years agoI found that what fixed for me was if you are on Windows 8 that you need to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and run it as an administrator then it works. I tried all the other solutions and this is the one that finally worked.
