@amandav101 Okay, let's try tweaking the graphicscards.sgr edit a bit. Where you see this:
card 0x0A2E "4th Gen Intel(R) Core processor graphics HD 5100 Iris - Mobile Haswell - ULT GT3"
Highlight the quoted text (don't highlight the quotes, just leave them), and command-x to delete it. Then highlight this:
Intel(R) Iris Graphics 5100
cmd-c to copy, and cmd-v to paste it between the quotes. It's important to copy, not to type, because the quotation marks will change to a different kind (one that the game can't read) if you type anything anywhere near them. If that happens, or you're not sure whether it did, just copy the quote marks from the first line above. Save and quit.
Now open graphicsrules.sgr, and cmd-F to search for 5100. You'll see this:
elseif (match("${cardName}", "*IntelHD5100Iris*"))
seti cardLevel $cardLevelMedium
seti isCardMatched true
Replace the part inside the asterisks (IntelHD5100Iris) with this:
Iris Graphics 5100
Leave all the punctuation, including the asterisks, intact.
Save your work, quit, restart your computer, and try to launch the game. Please let me know what found and matched values your deviceconfig has after this.
The service initialization error isn't better or worse, it's the same, just what you'd see if you hadn't solved the unknown error.

@amandav101 Okay, your card is recognized now, so that's good, at least. Please undo the steps to bypass the launcher, restart your computer, and try to launch the game. If you still get an unknown error, create a new admin user account on your Mac and try to launch the game from that. You can try it both with and without the launcher bypass.
By the way, you can continue to leave Origin out of the picture. Just launch the game from its icon in Applications.
- 6 years ago@puzzlezaddict success! it launched on a new user! thank you so much! i have been working on this all day.
now i have another question, i know night life has major issues so i wont even try to install, but how do i install another expansion pack after all this changes? i have EP seasons, do i just download and install? or do i have to do all these changes again?
thank you again so much - puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@amandav101 You can install Seasons just fine, with no workarounds necessary. Just don't run the Super Patch again (or tell Origin to patch, or anything like that), or else you'll need to reapply the .sgr edits.
If you do want to install Late Night later, it requires two workarounds. Both should work fine, although I understand if you don't want to go through the hassle. But if you do: The first fix is simple, creating an alias for Late Night in Applications\The Sims 3, alongside the alias for the base game.

The second fix is only necessary if you install Seasons or another pack that's newer than LN. You'd need to copy a folder from LN into a folder for Seasons (or whatever your newest pack happens to be, if it's newer than Seasons). This video shows where to find the folders and how to copy the right one:
I'm really glad to hear the game is working now though, especially after all the effort you put in.
- 6 years ago@puzzlezaddict okay i will download and install seasons from origin and hope that nothing goes wrong after all OUR effort. will let u know.

@puzzlezaddict Installed seasons and seems to work fine. Thank you so much for your help and patience. I’m too tired to even try and begin installing night life but seasons will do just fine for now. Thank you!

@amandav101 That's great to hear. And there's nothing wrong with playing with Seasons for a bit, then introducing Late Night when you want some extra content.
