Re: Sims 3 won't open: Alder Lake (Intel 12th-gen) CPU

@ThisIsNotInUseM8  Thanks for the dxdiag, which makes the issue clear: Sims 3 doesn't start correctly on your processor and others in its family.  I've therefore merged your post with the master thread for this issue.  The workaround is to limit the game to one CPU core as it starts to load.  Please see the accepted solution on page one for more information.

By the way, a component of GOG Galaxy appears to be crashing quite a lot.  I don't know anything about troubleshooting that app, but an uninstall and reinstall might be in order.

  • Hey @puzzlezaddict, it worked! Thank you so much!

I limited the game to just one core and it actually booted up, though it's pretty laggy and FPS is low. Would it work better if I limited it to say 2 cores for example? (I also don't know too much about the intricacies of computers so apologies if this is a really stupid suggestion lol)

Also when I got into the game it said 'the video card isn't recognised, we've put your settings on max but you should lower them if you experience performance issues.' Should I do this to be on the safe side if I can only keep it to one core?

One more thing, would I need to limit the cores every time I wanted to start the game?

Thanks again for all your help with this!

@ThisIsNotInUseM8  You do need to limit Sims 3 to one CPU core as it starts to load; two cores would give you the same problem.  But you can lift the limit as soon as the intro starts to play, or at the Main Menu if you prefer.  This is simply to get around an error that happens immediately at launch; the game will run fine with full access to your CPU after that.
