Re: The Sims 3 Origin "external application"

@bethridleyyy  This pop-up is from the 32-bit version of Sims 3.  The external application is the installer, which is also 32-bit and therefore won't run on your Mac.

You should have two copies of Sims 3 in your Origin library, one that says 64-bit on its tile:

This is the one you need to install, not the other.  If you don't see it, that version wasn't added to your account, and you'll need to contact EA customer support to request the "entitlement," as it's called.  Get the entitlements for any packs you own as well, while you're at it.  If you need help contacting support please see the first post of this thread:

It might also help to link the thread if the support rep tries to tell you they can't fix the problem, or it's a known issue that the team is working on, or please do troubleshooting on your end.  This happens a lot, and the answer is no, support can fix it, and only support can fix it, and has been doing so for years.

I would suggest running the Origin reset tool before doing anything else.  This will remove the 32-bit installer and related data without your having to dig it out yourself.  Running the reset tool after installing 64-bit Sims 3 would also remove files related to that game, so better to do it before installing.
