Re: "Version 0.0.0.0" error - ea thread solutions not working

I just checked out a mac thread and I cannot even *do* most of their listed solutions, because again, I'm not running a Mac operating system. In fact, the thread even says "The only solution for a proper Simming experience on your Mac is to play it in Windows, the OS which the game was written for." And then it goes into details on how to install bootcamp, which I've done.

So yes, my computer needs to be treated like a Windows, mac solutions are not even going to be applicable in most cases.

OK. Let's treat this as a Windows issue then.

Question about registery cleaning (cause that is the most common cause, just wanna make sure): Did you do it manually by going into the registery and doing it that way or did you use a tool for it ? Did you do it for all expansion packs you ever had on your computer ?

Is the .net Framework properly installed on your bootcamp as well ?

I did it manually - I cleaned the registry for the base game, the eps/sps, and even the origin client. At the moment I do not have the origin client installed, and the keys are not there. I do have the base game installed, and so I have base game keys but no keys for eps. I clean out the base game keys before each attempt at a re-install though. (Though if you want to know which keys are there I can certainly provide them)

I think (?) the .net Framework is fine, but I wouldn't necessarily know how to spot a problem.

When I check the framework keys using regedit here is what I see:

    [Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP]

Under NDP I have the files:

    -CDF

    -v2.0.50727

    -v3.0

    -v3.5

    -v4

I just realizd I think the information I just provided you only tells you the version of the Framework I have. (I'm not terribly familiar with this framework business x.x)

Anyways, using this tool: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx   which is supposed to tell you if your framework is working or not, I verified that all the versions of the framework on my computer are fine. (Again, at least according to the tool)

I'm not too good with them either but it seems you have the newest ones. Question is if it's good to have all of them on your computer (since the newer version usually include everything. I only have 4 on mine.

Do you have a the windows program uninstall windows on bootcamp ? You should be able to check there what's installed.

It seems from what I looked up that having previous versions is fine, as other pictures/examples showed other people having them too. But yeah, I dunno.

"Uninstall windows" - is that a Windows program that usually comes on the windows operating system ? If so then when I hunted around for it just now it doesn't look like I have it but I might not be looking in the right places.

If you're referring to how bootcamp actually uninstalls windows then I don't think it gives you data on what's there, it just reconfigures your hard-drive so that it's no longer partitioned into different operationg systems.

sorry to butt in but it may be that the .network frameworks can and or are conflicting  with each other  the older ones with the newer ones for pc it's just uninstalling the older ones via the control panel i have no idea how it works on macs so that must be found out if that is what needs to be done and how

i wish you the best of luck in solving this

    Thanks I appreciate your input

Uninstalling the frameworks here should work exactly like it does on a windows computer. How would one normally determine if that's what needs to be done?

Not to deter from this potential frameworks issue, but as a side note I suspect though that it's a registry issue, as this issue starting happening after I was trying to install new eps yesterday. However as far as I'm aware I properly cleaned the registry before each base game re-install attempt :/

Uninstalling is usually done through control panel where it says add and remove programs. Not sure if you have that.

Thanks for your input rum 🙂

Just a quick questions to be clear: Does the base game work on it's own at all or are you getting the error there too ? I do suspect it's the registery as well.

Did you do a search for sims ?

Yes, I do have that. I'm not sure exactly what I should be looking for in the uninstall programs section - I don't have any program that looks like "Uninstall Windows". There is a tab on the "Uninstall Programs" section that says "turn windows features on or off" - and that seems to have a list of things on the computer - is that what you're looking for?

Choose uninstall programs and search for Microsoft .net framework and uninstall the older ones (especially 1.0 and 2.0)

I can't give you screenshots since mine are all in German.

The only Microsoft .net frameowrk program listed in the uninstall programs section is version 4, which is my latest one

I just downlowded cc cleaner and scanned my computer for registry issues - it picked up on the old .net framework keys and deleted them. So I don't think there are any more traces of old frameworks on my computer anymore. I tried opening the game but that didn't help - I can try restaring/ uninstalling and reinstalling the game to see if those were causing the issue.

Ohmygoodnessssss I finally got it working. (At least for now - need to install the other eps and see if it continues to work). I'm not sure if it was a frameworks issue or a keys issue (I suspect keys as the framework has never given me a problem in the past but... don't know for sure.) I'll post what I did:

    1. I went into my registry and continued hunting around for old sims registry keys. I found some in some random places (don't quite remember where but I don't think they should have been there). I backed up my registry and kind of ran around haphazardly deleting anything sims or ea related I could find. (I don't really recommend doing this) (Besides CAW I don't have anything else ea/origin/sims related on my computer though so they shouldn't be there)

    2. I downloaded cc cleaner (free version) and scanned for registry issues - it picked up on both the old framework keys and some other old ep keys (those sneaky keys) and then deleted all of them.

    3. I uninstalled sims 3 via program uninstall.

    4. Checked keys again manually and with cc cleaner to make sure I couldn't find any more framework/ea/sims keys. (I left all my CAW keys alone though) Made sure all the origin keys were gone too.

    5. Restarted

    6. Reinstalled from disc

    7. Manually patched using the cumulative patched.

That got rid of the Version 0.0.0.0 error - I'll see if running the game/other installations also still work.

    Great.

Hopefully it continues to do so. Please accept a solution if it's solved.

I know you guys have the whole xp system - what do I do for that ? Also which post should I be accepting as the solution one ?

just hit the xp in crins previous post and if you feel that the for example the previous post by crin was right then hit th eaccept as asoloution OR if your post with the steps you took 1-7 was the answer you hit the accept as a solution and great to hear it's working for you now 🙂

I would accept your own. The one where you explain the steps you took.

XP is a way to show your appreciation to posts that aren't really the solution but that you're glad they were made none-the-less. It's a way to show that you were satisfied with the help you received while the solutuon is something that will tell someone else what they need to do in order to solve their issue.

Here's some links how it works:
