Relocating Game Data to a Different Drive

Hello Community,

I recently had to uninstall/reinstall TS3 to a different drive on my PC. Upon doing so, the way the game files are organized changed, so I haven't been able to figure out where to place my backed-up save or CC files.

Could someone help guide me on where to relocate my game data to? As of now I have no access to play any of my saves which include some very lengthy legacy families. Would appreciate any help!

  • SimsSyndicate  The user data is always stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3; this is independent of where you've installed the game itself.  If you want to keep using this location, go right ahead, it's fine to have the data on a different drive than the game.

If you'd like to move the user data too, you'll need to create a symbolic link.  This guide was written for Sims 4, but the process is exactly the same other than the folder names:

The folder can be almost anywhere, but do NOT combine it with the game's program files, which can and will break things sooner or later.

If you need help with this process, please post a screenshot of the Command Prompt window showing the command you've used and the error, if any, you received.
