Retrieving CC after renaming user files

Hi,

I was having an issue with my game so I renamed the folder "The Sims 3" in my Electronic Arts folder and relaunched the game to create a new one. This worked so I moved over my saves and mods and they're appearing in the game fine, as well as any CC I had in the .package form. However, I downloaded a lot of custom content a few years ago and downloaded and installed them through the launcher, and all of these are gone now. I don't have the original files anymore to redownload them and I cleared my downloads from the installer a while back to make the game run faster so they weren't preserved there either. Is there anywhere this CC might have been saved so I can retrieve it?

Thanks!

  • @1st585  Custom content intstalled through the launcher is bundled into .dbc files in DCCache.  (Files with an .ebc extension are store content.)  You can copy over those files to the new Sims 3 folder, but make sure the files are numbered sequentially, starting with zero, or the game will stop reading after a number is skipped.  For example, if you have dcdb0, dcdb1, dcdb2, and dcdb4.dbc, the first three will be read, but the last one won't, because the dcdb3.dbc is missing.

If you can't get the .dbc files to work, you can try the .package files in DCBackup, if you still have them.  (The file labeled ccmerged.package is different.)  These files are created when you install an item through the launcher too, and some people use them instead of the .dbc files.  They function like any other .package file when placed in Mods\Packages.
