Serial code

Hello, My name is Jess, i have recently purchased the Sims 3 base game, i was super excited to play it on my mac but then i realized that it wouldnt work on a Power PC so i tried it on my friends PC. It was installing fine and it showed up in My Origin library, but as soon as i went to actually play it, it shut the computer down. So i got back into it and the game was still in the library even when the disc wasn't inserted in the disc drive. But every time i went to get into the game it shut the computer down. So one of my other friends also has Origin so i opened up my library there and the game wasn't there, so i tried reinstalling the game on their computer but no luck as i had already entered the serial code.
Is there something I have done in the installing progress wrong? Or is it possible that i could get another serial code? As i don't want to buy another base game.
