I just got a new laptop, and I can't get Sims 3 to start on it. I've tried everything in this thread, but nothing has worked. I don't know what else to try. I have the game on Steam. All expansions ...

    Okay, doing the dxdiag thing made me notice my graphics card drivers weren't installed at all and it was just using the Intel graphics. Now that I've installed the right drivers, the game is working. Thanks for your help!

    Yep, I also tried going right to the exe and running it as administrator, but I still got the error.
