Showtime - Limited Edition Ultimate Venue lot appears as a pitch black walled building?

Hi there,

I've had no luck trying to get the Ultimate Venue lot to look as I believe it is supposed to, given that when I place the lot down the exterior (fountain lights, etc...) are all fine but the building itself is a bare four wall frame of jet black.

I'm not sure what's causing this and have tried repeatedly uninstalling / reinstalling, deleting the file and re-downloading and the same thing happens. If this helps, the following seems to occur which I find odd and may shed some light :-

* within the Launcher and also the in-game Downoad Dashboard, it appears as "Lot 5" under "Lots", although under "Objects" the correct thumbnail and "Ultimate Show Venue and Stage" tagline appears as a spearate item; and

* within my community lots bin within Edit World the venue looks like a beige shed with a grey roof and has a custom content pink asterisk marker.

I'm happy to provide further information to assist, but does anyone know what's happening here and what the solution could be?

Thank you very much in advance,

James

The Sims™ 3 Minimum Hardware Requirements   FOR WINDOWS XP

    • 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
    • 1 GB RAM
    • 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
    • The latest version of DirectX 9.0c
    • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
    • At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

    FOR WINDOWS VISTA

    • 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
    • 1.5 GB RAM
    • 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
    • Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1
    • At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least:

    • Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above
    • 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
    • 0.5 GB additional RAM

Does your machine meet the minimum?

  • Hi Gorath,

Thank you for your response - it defnitely does, i7-3770K @3.5Ghz, 16 Gigs RAM and nvidia GeForce GTX 660Ti Dual SLI on Windows 7. and about a terabyte free on my Sims 3 drive.

It's very strange as the game runs smoothly with no graphics problems at all and this lot issue happens even for example using edit world in a brand new Sunset Valley (say by replacing Central Park). The other two big show venues (Hoi Polloi and Binder Clip) have no such problem and no other graphical issues in any of the worlds, from each expansion pack other than Supernatural / University Life (which I don't have).

I've been crawling the internet and I'm thinking that maybe I'm meant to use Build Mode to make it look all pretty but is it really meant to start as essentially a square-ish set of four black walls with a fancy stage inside?

I'm hopping off to bed now (it's nearly 1am in Sydney!) but I'll check tomorrow if there's any other information I can provide to assist.

    Thanks again,

    James

  • Thank you very much for your message Crinrict!

I'm not sure what it was, however I tried the "factory reset" methodology outlined, downloaded and installed only the Ultimate Venue item set and it worked fine.

Copied back my entire My Documents Sims 3 folder back in and the building remains fine as well, no further problems. Go figure o.O

Thank you very much for your help though =D

    Have a great weekend,

    James
