Sims 3 - "There is a problem connecting to the server..." installation error

Or you can download Late Night and High-End Loft Stuff, apply this workaround for Late Night:

and skip the nonsense with the license server.  Keep in mind that you need to tell Origin to download the packs separately.  Click on the Sims 3 icon, select More > Expansion packs (for LN) or Stuff Packs (for HELS), scroll to where each pack is listed, and click Download.

@Jaymzeecat  The way to solve it is the same as it's been for a while: exchange the nonworking paul.dll file, required to authenticate your install, for a newer version.  The relevant files are already in your Sims 3 install.  Here are directions:

@Ay0401Fty  It's possible to get the game running on your computer, although it doesn't always work.  Please let me know what error you're seeing, which packs (if any) you've installed, and which packs you'd like to install but haven't yet.
