It's built on RivaTuner Statistics Server, but what it does is force vertical sync, which should help with the flickering.
If you get another crash, please move your entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop. When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content. Don't add anything to it yet; just start a new save in Sunset Valley and let me know whether the game still crashes.
If you still get a crash in a clean folder, please post a new dxdiag. If you don't get a crash in the clean folder (but you did get a crash in the old folder), the issue is some content in the old folder or possibly the world you were playing in, so let me know what world was and we can go from there.
Hi! Thanks I downloaded the new tool, shall i uninstall riva now? The fps seems to have gone lower now, i did what u said and so far no crash, i loaded a preamade family and ran the game for a bit went on the map a few times too so far no closing to desktop but Im not certain it wont as on my other save sometimes the game would ran for a while before closing or sometimes it would be straight away. I was playing in sunset valley as well before. Shall I delete the old famnily completey and start afresh im worried it will still crash this seems impossible to fix lol thanks again for ur help by the way
@ami888 You don't need to uninstall RTSS, and in fact it shouldn't hurt to keep running it alongside D3DOverrider. If you ever play in windowed mode, I'd keep RTSS around because (I believe) the other tool only limits fps in fullscreen. But if you'd like to uninstall RTSS, that's also fine.
Your existing save may or may not be fine; there's no harm in testing it out. Even if it's borked, you can always save the sims to the library for later use. And you don't need to delete the save either way—it won't have any effect on your game while it's just sitting there not being played. If you do load the save and it crashes, that's not a problem either: just restart your computer and go back to the other save.
hi so the new save just crashed too just as i opened the map ☹️ im playing in sunset valley but a version someone renovated. i dont think the crash is anything to do with the town as previous save it was just sunset valley normal version i have also tried running game in other ea towns still will force close
@ami888 Just to be sure, please test the default Sunset Valley in another clean user folder, as before. Don't add anything to that folder; the point is to see how the game performs with only EA-provided content. And make sure the framerate limit is being respected. If you do play in windowed mode at all, you'll still need to use RTSS to enforce the limit.
If you get another crash, please look for related entries in the Reliability Monitor. Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day. For any error that happened while you were playing in this new user folder, right-click and select "View technical details," then copy the info and paste it here.
