Sims 3 clothing bug

Hi! I don’t know if people still play on sims 3 but I’ve recently stumbled upon a bug of some kind when my sim enters or leave the house. Example: she’s off to work, she gets in the carpool car, then gets out and changes clothes from daily wear, formal, sleeping, training, bath clothes and then the clothes for her profession. Since she entered the car and then got out again, the car leaves. Then when she gets home, she does that all over again. The clothes she’s wearing are from the base game and expansions and no downloaded ones. I do have 3 moss installed but this problem has never occurred before.

  • @Lewlle  Some of us do absolutely still play Sims 3, and it even has its own forum, which is where I've moved your post.

Do you have a mod that affects what sims where in different situations, for example one that forces them to change out of work clothes?  If so, please try playing without it.

Please also let me know whether this happens if you manually tell the sim to change into the appropriate outfit first, for example having her change into her career outfit before getting into the carpool car.

And just to clarify, in this example, is she wearing her career outfit when she gets into the car, then exits it to cycle through all her outfits?  Or is she not changing before entering the car in the first place?

Oh, thank you so much! Not that I know, the mods I have are mastercontroller and portrait panel.
When the car comes to pick her up she changes to the work outfit, then she enters the car and then leave and it all happens. She ends up with the work clothes and then walks to her workplace. I haven’t tried to manually change her clothing though.

Other weird things after this started up is: when in cas or “plan an outfit” you can see (for example) a dress and also all the colors of that dress in a slider. Now I only see one item of clothing and have to go to Recolor and select the other designs on that same outfit.

Also, my household had 3 babies and the game crashed two times and when I started the game up after the second crash one of the babies was missing. I couldn’t se it and it wasn’t in the portrait panel, yet I couldn’t move the household and leaving the baby that I couldn’t find. I wen back to an earlier save and the baby was back.

All of this started after I moved two recently created sim that I put into my household.

I’m not sure if any of these are related to the problems after the change from origin to EA,  sometimes I need to restart the game several times to be able to play on monte vista.

  • @Lewlle  I would strongly suggest adding NRaas ErrorTrap and Overwatch for the overall health of your game.  They clean up errors and bad data in the background, with no need for you to do anything.  ET in particular is quite chatty: you'll get notifications whenever it finds something to fix, but there's no need to worry unless you get a large pile of errors at once or the same one over and over, or you get a crash at the time of an error.

I can't tell you from your description why one of the babies disappeared, but that's another reason to add ET and OW: whatever was wrong with the sim might be easily fixed by these mods.

It sounds like you've enabled compact form in CAS with MasterController.  You can disable this if you want: NRaas > MC > Settings > CAS > Category Changes > Show in Compact Form: [category] > False.

If you haven't done this, or actually even if you have, are you using the Smooth Patch by Lazy Duchess, and if so, do you have version 2.x with the optional add-on that works with MasterController?  I don't use it myself, but I know it's not completely compatible with MC, and I believe there are some issues around compact form as well.

The store content not loading properly is a known issue with the EA App:

EA is aware of the issue, and we're hoping they'll have a fix soon.  Having said that, if MV does in fact load, this issue shouldn't be contributing to the outfit glitch.

Hi! When I enter via nraas, mc, settings, cas, categories it says “false” on every one of them. Are they supposed to be true? Thing is I went there once to change setting allowing accessories on top of accessories (sorry I’m Swedish I don’t know what they are called in English) and I think I accidentally clicked on something else within those settings and I wonder if that’s what happened. Both the male and female new sim does this while my previous couple they replaced never did that. Unfortunately I moved them out before I could see if this is effecting them too.

    the only thing

Hi! When I come to “category changes” everything is set to “false”, is that how it should be?

I actually did change a setting to be able to stack accessories and I think I’ve might have clicked on something by accident and wonder if that is what’s causing this. Both the male and female sim does this changing clothes thing while the previous couple I replaced them with never did this. I moved them out before I could see if this effected them as well.

I have not installed any patches. Thanks for replying 🙏🏼

  • EDIT: For more info I have:

    * tried to move out the household, saved that household delete the old house and replaced that house with a copy and then placed the saved household and played with them and nothing changed.

    • started a whole new game with a new household and that new sim also changed clothes from daily wear all the way to outdoor outfit.

I don’t know much about patches but I’ve noticed that some of my downloaded content doesn’t have the same quality as before (some hairstyles have bald spots here and there where they worked before.) although those problems I have had for a while and it didn’t affect my game.

  • @Lewlle  Try playing in a clean user folder, as in, move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop in order to let the game generate a new folder.  Start with a new household and add your NRaas mods, but nothing else; don't change any mod settings either.  If the same problem happens with these sims, let me know what jobs they started with, then change to different jobs and test again.

Thank you! I will try that and get back to you. I need to ask first: what will happen to all the store bought downloads? I do believe my game would need a fresh start but since there is a problem with that right now it feels a little scary that I might not be able to install them right back again. For some reason all my purchased worlds shows up except for hidden springs but I’m scared to lose them if I remove that whole folder.

  • @Lewlle  Your content will all be intact in the folder you've moved, and if you were to restore that folder, the content would show up again.  But don't move anything over right now; the point is to test with absolutely no added content.  NRaas mods are fine because of how extensively they've been tested and the fact that they fix errors rather than adding any.

Hi! I have yet to try your solution because funny enough, it all went back to normal after the game crashed when I tried to reset the lot. When I started up the game they had stopped changing clothes several times.

although the new problem: my sim is giving birth, I get to chose name and traits but the baby never shows in the portrait panel however in the list of friends and in the family tree I can see it. I’ve also tried different sim giving birth and also tried removing the woohoo mod and nothing works. Maybe your solution can work on that?

  • @Lewlle  Does MasterController know where the baby is, or can you add it to your household by clicking on the lot and selecting NRaas > MC > Add Sim?

Additionally, did you add ErrorTrap and Overwatch?  What you're describing could be a very serious error, although i'm not totally sure from your description.
