Sims 3 crashes in game

Hi,
I've been having issue with my game where it crashes before the first save (nraas). I noticed that when i first open the launcher that I'm already signed in, but when I start the game at the main menu I have to re-sign in. I have deleted my caches in game and on microsoft edge, repaired the game, have my game running as administor .

  • @trinhbaby  The crashes listed in your dxdiag are access violations, too generic to be much help here.  But one common cause is mods or custom content, so please remove all your mods and cc other than whatever NRaas mods you're using.  If you're using NRaas StoryProgression, please remove it too, at least for now.  You don't need to save your progress; this is just for testing.

If your existing save still crashes, please start a new save in Sunset Valley, for comparison's sake, and let me know how it runs.

Additionally, have you taken steps to limit your in-game fps?  It's a crucial step on even entry-level gaming graphics cards, and not doing so could certainly cause crashes, among other symptoms.  I can help with the process if necessary; just ask.

    HI,
I did what you said and it seemed to have done the trick. Thank you!

How do you limit ingame fps?

@trinhbaby  Glad to hear the crashing is fixed.

To limit in-game fps, the simplest solution on a desktop with an Nvidia GPU, as you have, is to set the limit in the Nvidia Control Panel.  Right-click the desktop and select the Control Panel, then Manage 3D Settings > Program settings, then Sims 3 (ts3.exe, without the W).  Scroll down to Max Frame Rate and set it to whatever you want.  If you play in fullscreen mode, I'd suggest also enabling Vertical sync, set to On or Adaptive, and Triple buffering.  These settings don't apply in windowed mode, so skip this step if you never use fullscreen.

If you do play in fullscreen, and enabling Vertical sync has effects you don't like, you can switch between On and Adaptive, or try Fast.  There's no harm in experimenting with the settings.  I use On for my system, and it's fine, but some players get better results with other settings.

As a side note, your monitor's native refresh rate is 120 Hz, so it's capable of displaying up to 120 fps, but it's running at 60 Hz right now.  If you'd like to change that, you might notice a smoother overall experience, even using basic apps or your desktop.  The option is under Windows Settings > System > Display > Advanced.

The Max Frame Rate shouldn't be higher than the refresh rate of your monitor, so 60 if you don't change the refresh rate, and 120 or lower if you do.
