Sims 3 crashes to desktop when in fullscreen

Hello!

So I have never had that problem before but yesterday my game started suddenly crashing everytime I tried to open it. It would sent me instantly back to desktop and keep running in the background. Everytime I try to click on it, I get sent back. I can only close it through task manager. 

I looked online for some solutions and I found one where I had to go into the “options.ini” which is located in the document folder of the Sims 3 and set “full screen = 0"  which makes the game run windowed. That worked and my game runs smoothly. The problem is that I prefer fullscreen and I don't want to keep playing in windowed mode. 

I already tried removing all my mods and downloads - even reinstalling the whole game but nothing worked. It keeps crashing when I start it in fullscreen or change the options to fullscreen while playing it windowed.
