Sims 3 Crashes to Desktop with No Error Message!

So I have been struggling with this problem for over a year now, and have not found anything close to fixing the problem. I bought a new laptop for the sole purpose of making this game more playable when I run into this problem a few days after setting up my new laptop.

1. My fps was uncapped but now I have a program that keeps it at 60fps.

2. I do have a lot of CC and store content, but I have already attempted to play this game with none of them and it still crashed randomly.

3. I am attempting to get a dxdiag file but the program won't open on my laptop at the moment.

4. The crashes are completely random, they can happen 30 minutes into gameplay or 4 hours into gameplay.

5. There is no error message from the sims 3. The game just completely closes itself out and I am suddenly staring at my desktop.

6. I did look into my Event Viewer and saw a few errors at the same time I was either playing the game or the game crashes. I can post the messages if they are relevant.

7. I do occasionally run into the 100% disk problem in my task management, but Sims 3 only contributes to that when the launcher loads.

Computer States:

Name: Acer Nitro 5

Processor: Intel Core i5 - 83000H 2.30GHz

Ram 8GB (7.85 GB Usable)

System Type: 64-bit

Graphics: Nivida GeForce GTX 1050

Screen: 1920 x 1080 60Hz

Windows 10 1803 Build 17134.829

I have over 659 GB free of 930GB (HDD)

Sims 3 is the only game that I am having this problem with. I also have Sims 4 installed and another open world game that works just fine. If anyone has any suggestions that can help solve this persistent problem I would be totally grateful.

I hope to post my dxdiag file soon. Hopefully restarting my computer will get it to work.

Attached DxDiag. 🙂

  • Hi there, this topic hasn't been updated since June, so I was wondering what your current status is. I recently downloaded Sims 3 & Sims 4 back onto my laptop a few weeks ago (after having general non-Sims performance issues over the summer so I reinstalled Windows onto a clean drive). The Sims 4 worked perfectly fine from the get-go, but The Sims 3 was always crashing like 5 - 10 minutes into it, and just like your issue, with no visual error message evident. I was wondering if you're still having the crashing issue as I did something so simple that fixed it for me, was actually quite shocking to say the least. :-)

    Hi @christine800133,

This thread was last active two years ago so I'll close it out there to limit necroposting it further. If you're coming across a similar issue today, please pop open a new thread and share what steps you've already tried to get the ball rolling over there.

    Thanks,
